What a horribly written article, apparently we will be the coldest place on earth this winter, so the whole thing? being colder than Antarctica when it's their summer is quite a feat too, especially when the Arctic is in the middle of winter!

could be worse. Spent one summer with a co op student, identifying all the HVAC equipment at the Waste Water treatment plant here.

but the worst place I have had to do testing was at the Rendering Plant.

hardest part tomorrow is flying to McMurray.

I would assume somewhere in Canada is the coldest place on Earth every winter, probably quite regularly

These quotes stuck out for me. For what it's worth...

“Arctic air is forecast to barrel down from the North Pole and will settle east of the Rocky Mountains,” reports The Weather Network.

“Extreme wind chill values of -60 to -65 are expected to hit Canada this February”, warns Environment Canada.

The Weather Network has stated that the arctic air will “move like molasses” and take over parts of Canada in the second week of February.

The dog of course only wanted to play outside when I took her out to do her business. Meanwhile I'm just slowly becoming an ice cube.
-27 outside my house.

Yeah, we're big enough and cold enough that I'm sure it happens every winter during a cold snap at some point.

Last year Saskatoon was the coldest place on earth for an hour in February when we hit -42.5 degrees.

Vancouver is supposed to get more snow on Tuesday/Wednesday before this ends but the forecast for the cold snap so far is pretty unremarkable. -6 right now, headed down to -7 tonight at YVR and then gradually moderating until temperatures are back to normal around the weekend. It's looking like that -15 forecast was just wrong (I wonder if some places generate clickbait forecasts these days).

Hopefully that's it for significant sub-zero stretches for the winter...

The -15 forecast was always for windchill. Now the windchill forecast changed to -14 tomorrow morning.

Windchill in Abbotsford is still forecast to be -20, hence Arctic Outflow warning is issued. There haven't been an Arctic Outflow for Metro Vancouver for a long long time...

Monday around Vancouver was overcast, cold and mostly calm and precipitation free. The high at YVR was -3 C, the low was -7 C.

Maybe we should plow all the sidewalks, and do a better job of it, instead of forcing us to walk in the street.

Storm coming this week could bring zero cm, or could bring 60 Thanks, EC.

Anyhow, still shit. Freezing, snow everywhere, bitter run to work.

The difference in temperatures at Alberta's 2 international airports this morning is nearly 10 degrees. Edmonton's being outside of town probably playing a factor.

Calgary (YYC): -30
Edmonton (YEG): -39

^ when it's that cold does 10 degrees even matter? That's squarely in "stay inside" temperatures right there.

No, the -15 was the forecast low temperature from Weathernetwork as late as Friday or Saturday of last week. They had a high of -10. TWN always under predicts temps on the S. Coast and loves clickbait forecasts. Or they are using an unreliable model.

Even during cold snaps these days it is very difficult for Vancouver to dip below -10, so that forecast should have always been suspect.
