The temperature has dropped to -1, but it's still very sunny outside. The setting sun is right now casting a beautiful orangey glow on buildings and other things outside my place.

Yes, if Mother Nature was going to give us a little break it was perfect timing for it to happen on New Year's Day. Epic 100th Polar Bear Swim down at English Bay. The beach was FULL from end to end with thousands of swimmers. 12 C and perfectly calm.

Low of -1C last night during the New Year celebration. Relatively mild.

The warmspot on this first day of the new decade was Entrance Island, BC at 13.6C. Warmest temperature this year and this decade.

Speaking of decades, the warmest temperature in Canada in the 2010's appears to be Moose Jaw, SK at 42.3C on August 11, 2018.
Kind of weak, the 2000's had more extreme temperatures and of course, the 1930's remains the most extreme decade.

New Year's Day in Vancouver started out with blue skies and then some cloud came in by afternoon. The high at Vancouver Harbour was 12 C, the low was 7 C.

Maximum snow depth is the most snow on the ground at any point during the winter season. Snow depth varies throughout the season, depending on snow storms and melting/rain storms. There's usually at least a little period of time during out winters when our snow depth is well over one foot, but it usually doesn't last too long.

I think the official way to measure snow depth is to place a white painted board on the ground in an open grass field, which provides a flat surface for the measuring stick.

A mix of sun and cloud here today , high of 6C. Our 13th consecutive day with above freezing temperatures, tomorrow will be #14.

December finished with above normal temperatures across all of SW and S Ontario, with temps averaging 1-3C above the seasonal norm depending where you live. There is no snowcover anywhere right now from Windsor to the entire GTA, north to almost Barrie, and extending east towards Kingston along Hwy 401.

We had a tiny bit of snow on the morning of New Year's Eve. It is completely gone now.

Today's high was 6.8, it is currently 5.8. We only have one day that won't rise above zero in the two-week forecast. Most of the lows are above freezing too.

2C and mainly cloudy with a few peeks of sun. Much warmer as you exit the island towards the border with Saint-Anicet hitting 6.4C today.

Low of -2C (wind chill of -7). Not a bad day overall.

The warmspot was Windsor, ON at 8.8C.

Our monthly avg temperature in December was -4.4C. Mildest since 2015 (avg of 1.7C)
