Please no. Why can't we keep some beautiful old greystone rowhouses close to downtown? Does every low-rise parcel/site need to have a highrise?

Interesting. The LoopNorthNews article said new plans were filed with the city on Dec 11th. I would love to see if they are still using SOM and how they plan to incorporate the greystone facades.

What a hoot - ugly does not begin to describe this puppy. On the other hand the article itself is pretty sad "as dull as a set of United Airlines steak knives." What does that even mean? United does NOT have steak knives, either sharp or dull.

Well there is a public hearing on the landmark district in two weeks, and these buildings are still included, so I'm not too concerned.

^That E/W elevation with the circular buttress comes off as pomo and very bad, while the north/south elevation with the cross bracing is borderline glorious!

This could be a decent tower if they refine the crown a bit.

Crains had posted a more recent version of 40 east superior where the building wraps around the existing townhouses. A midrise portion would go where the small empty lot and garage are along Wabash. The tower is where the stone Art Deco Building is. If I can find it, I’ll post it. But the preservation effort looked genuine, not just a facadectomy veneer

It's a facadectomy. What do you think is gonna be behind those rowhouse facades? More high-rent retail space.

Although there are some serious challenges in a facadectomy, since the 1st floors are both above grade (not great for ADA access) and they appear to be at two different heights, to boot.

I'm worried that even if they preserve the facades, they'll just be pasted onto the tower's podium with blank windows for a Streets of Woodfield look.
