Since the year's almost up I had a look at the daily data for Halifax Dockyard. I'll clean it up a bit once December 31 is recorded and I get some time but here's what the numbers are so far.

Average annual high: 11.7
Average annual low: 4.0
Annual average: 7.9
Warmest daily high: 34.4
Coldest daily high: -7.1
Warmest daily low: 18.7
Coldest daily low: -15.1

A preliminary chart:

It's interesting to see how the daily variability drops so much when going into springtime, while winter is all over the place. It was a below average winter for nightly lows but not highs. I suspect that 34.4 day (July 5) is a big outlier too. There are probably plenty of years when this station doesn't hit 30.

Interesting how the one most reliable figure by far is springtime night lows.

edit: logical when you think about it. Daytime high depends a lot on highly-variable factors (i.e. is the sun showing or not on that day) but the low at night is mostly going to be dictated by the (very stable/reliable) temperature of the enormous body of water you have nearby at that time of year.

It appears your numbers are from YYZ (Mississauga) and his are from The Annex (downtown Toronto). I guess YYZ would be the official station but it's not even in Toronto so both are right in their own way. A discussion that's come up many times before, that's for sure!

Lol yes I was gonna say this comes up all the time. I have gone with what is called "Toronto" and every other city I had typed into the search bar.
Even our airport is at a higher elevation than downtown so it gets more snow and is drier so a bit cooler in winter.

A snowfall warning has been posted for Castlegar and the nearby highway passes:

"A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 20-30cms is expected"
But as always it is mild and calm so not stormy at all.

Just go with the environment Canada data easily displayed on the website.

Same way YVR isn’t Vancouver (could use Vancouver Harbour instead...)

And Victoria Airport isn’t Victoria (could use UVic or Gonzales Please Point instead...)

But when you are doing such a fun favor for a cross Canada weather comparison just go with the quick and easy.

If someone wants to add their own preferred station’s data, all the power to them, just as long as they are not a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 and say your data is “wrong”

And if they feel that way, then let them do the cross Canada data collection from all the “best case” weather stations.

I personally go to each cities climate section on Wikipedia. They use EC data but it is displayed much better and there are multiple weather stations to compare.

Btw do you have Peachland's stats for today? You mentioned how mild they are in the winter and I was surprised we were as high as 3rd on the LOWS chart.

It is a good source, but he is posting the daily averages, not monthly, which are not on Wikipedia.

They are posted on the forecast pages of Environment Canada. Quick and easy.

Ottawa (airport) peaked at -1.2 c with snow, freezing rain, ice pellets the order of the day.

I'll be travelling on New Years Day towards the GTA and I'm sure I'll see quite a difference that day from snow on the ground to bare grass.
