The only reason I can think of for the lack of traffic signals is that because many of the intersections are so close to each other, there would be a back up of cars at the next intersection unable to go through a green light causing traffic jams which could potentially be more hazardous to pedestrians. Ideally, there should be flashing strobe signs warning drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing in a walkway triggered by a crosswalk button you see at most busy intersections. They have these at the Dell Campus in Round Rock. They are mostly along busy Green Lawn Blvd just north of Louis Henna. They are quite effective.

I don't get up to the Domain more than once every year or two. But would it be possible to close some of the congested streets to traffic or at least limit traffic to employees or delivery trucks?

THIS

Honestly, even 3-4 years ago when I was still living out there, I used to note this. If they want to eventually be a part of and feel like a continuous component of the city of Austin, they need to embrace traffic lights. They don't even need to be at every intersection, just the hot spots, just as you would with any area of the city- traffic reaches a certain level and triggers such a need. Leaning on stop signs indefinitely is a symptom of gated community attitudes.

Frankly, it's the only issue I've ever taken with the Domain.

They close Rock Rose on most Friday or Saturday nights similar to what's done on 6th street, with the exception of ride shares.

I'd prefer roundabouts way more than traffic lights if the space is there. They still handle congestion well and drivers have to pay attention. The thing I worry about with traffic lights in the domain is drivers seeing green lights and not paying attention to anything or anyone else. It feels like it goes form pedestrian centric to car centric.

What is now know as domain tower 3 might be getting closer to a start. The parking Lot south of 045 where tower 3 will be will located will be blocked off in January so the landlord can start construction. I assume similar to tower 2, utilities first

It’s going to be a lot of fun trying to get into the parking garage for ibm and indeed

I know this has been brought up before but I think this thread can be divided into 2.

North Austin thread

I kind of see the Domain and Broadmoor as one single area, even though corporate will tell you otherwise. Still, these two developments will create a single skyline, even if they aren't connected very well.

Before the Domain started booming, this thread was mostly used to catch all of the lowrise residential along Burnet Road, but now the Domain and Broadmoor are starting to overshadow the developments there so that most of the discussion and physical space here is alotted to them instead of any other projects in North Austin. We have a South Austin updates thread, so we might be able to create a North Austin updates thread also. I think this thread should be kept to focus on the Domain and Broadmoor which will only continue to intensify and define themselves distinctly from their surroundings.

I agree I think there should be a combined thread for all domain/broadmoor projects and then a second thread for a north austin catch all

Just don't sticky another thread.

I think the domain and broad more will feel more connected after the corridor project and you have 9 feet of shared used paths on each side and grass instead of ditches. It'll look like a more urban road instead of a rural highway.

On the subject of the corridor projects, here are the designs for the 2 early out projects for Burnet. The breaker project is scheduled to start next year and Koenig in Fall 2021. Looks like certain improvements will have to wait until the entire corridor contracts go out.

Is there anyone out there who can explain what this odd feature is on the Pickle Research Campus near the corner of Braker and Burnet? The google map link is below, but you can see it in the corridor construction diagram as well.

Are these drainage channels? Bobsled tracks leading into an underground bunker?

https://goo.gl/maps/5J2XoT8AHwBoM8Px9

I've always hoped UT would eventually develop at least the Burnet-facing part of PRC, but if there's some kind of underground water retention facility that would probably preclude that (or at least make it prohibitively expensive to develop).

On HistoricAerials, you can see it wasn't there in 2004.

The historic imagery in Google Earth shows that it was built in 2007.
It was probably drainage for this building and its parking lot.

Are they really going to work on Braker burnet intersection next year the same time as they start tearing up for domain tower 3 and the same time Starbucks is getting built and the same time ibm and indeed have only one option in to work via westbound Braker,

We need the upgrade but that will be a major mess to deal with, it’s bad enough right now,

They want to get the intersection done before the Austin FC Stadium opens. The rest of Burnet will follow about a year later.

We'll just have to avoid that intersection for a while. I'll just take Kramer instead.

Site prep work has started at 2237 W. Braker Lane. The lot is fenced in around the worksite where it faces W Braker Lane and Kramer Lane. I am not sure what is being built here, but at one time is was going to be a Towne Place Suites.

I found the city's permit/case number: 2019-061555 SP. It will be a 5 story TownePlace Suites.

I took my semi-annual trip north to the Domain this weekend. It is definitely a congested spot. But there was a traffic cop directing both cars and people at at least one of the busiest intersections. The congestion mostly affects the cars though as they have to wait for the throngs of people crossing the street at every corner. But there is plenty of parking in the parking garages on the edges of the Domain, and I don't know why people insist on driving through the congestion.
