The stations where they've upgraded the platform signs with 'next arrival' info also have a sign outside the entrance. As far as I know they plan on doing that to all of the Expo and Millennium Line, so why wouldn't they add them to the new stations as well...

Never hurts to reinforce the point though.

Can't wait to see more on the construction front.

So the Federal Election has come and gone, and there's been no announcement about extra funding to extend the Millennium Line all the way to UBC.

I thought that would be the best opportunity to leverage extra funding money from government.

So what does that mean now for the potential of this happening in this cycle? Shovels haven't been stuck in the ground yet. I'm sure there's a designed "Plan B" already drawn up, with full costings and station locations planned out. But without federal money, then UBC, the CoV and the Provincial Government aren't going to chip in (because the defecit would be too great without a Federal contribution).

Do we have to finally resign ourselves to the extension ending at Arbutus (at least, for our lifetimes)?

There's definitely no "full costings and station locations planned out." I believe it is still in the preliminary planning stage..

and I doubt you'll see any funding announced towards it in this cycle. The first priority is receiving funding for Phase 3 of the 10-year plan (which includes the full extension to Langley)

Once that happens, then the conversation can shift into high gear for UBC. But I imagine the mayors council will need to decide how to pay for their share again, so the biggest hold-up could actually be on the regional end again

(at least that is my current understanding of the situation)

The new federal gov has to be sworn in first - and that will happen Nov 20th.

Probably because he didn't post the rendering so it's easy to overlook when scrolling quickly.

*****
Wow, 3 escalators (2 up and 1 down) between stations.
For Broadway, just noticed that there is a new Canada Line platform level passage from the northbound platform
over to the escalators down to the M-Line platform.
The rendering also tells us that the favoured design will be a twin bore, rather than one big diameter tunnel.
(But it's probably open to the contractor to suggest a different design)

3) City-Hall Broadway Station Platform on the Millennium Line should be centered underneath the Canada Line so that walking distance between the platforms is minimized. The elevator from Southbound Canada Line Platform to the Millennium Line Concourse could extend directly to the MLine platform if this was the case thus increasing accessibility and eliminating the cost of an extra elevator.
4) Attempt to keep stations as close to the surface as possible to increase accessibility of the station and reduce the time of travel from sidewalk to platform.
5) Provide shelters and rain cover for all bus stations at all subway stations
6) Have real time train arrival display at the entrance to the station.
No problem. Value engineer a cut and cover solution under 10th or 8th.

How the heck are they going to accommodate all the buses on Broadway during construction? Those stations are still going to be cut and cover, and being so deep, they are going to be five massive roadblocks for all traffic travelling the route....

I'm not sure how many people really pay attention to this, but...

Someone finally cleaned the windows (not very good, but better than it was) at Production Way station. I don't know how long it's been, but it's been long enough that I'm sure I could find pictures in my phone of it going back to at least spring.

And in case ron doesn't want to go back (link):

Quote:
To maintain access to transit along the Broadway corridor during the construction of the Broadway Subway Project, three routes will be detoured. New trolley wires will be installed to accommodate adjusted routes for the 14, 16, and 17 trolley buses. These changes are temporary for the duration of construction beginning in 2020.

Trolley wires will be installed along portions of 12th Street and Macdonald Street, to accommodate bus detours for the 14, 16 and 17.

The Cambie station rebuild might include knockout panels for a future underground connection at City Hall and/or the northeast (A&W) corner. May or may not include retail units, depending on how much room is left after HVAC, etc.

.... Completely forgot to ask about VGH. My mistake.

If it's any consolation, the Broadway Plan reps were also there, and they said there'll be a viewcone review (with public input) next year. Hold onto your butts?

Based on the terrain and distance, that would involve a ton of work on both sides (hospital and Translink) and go under more land that is currently privately held.

Tens of millions at least.

Maybe Jimmy Pattison or some other donor might make a donation to fund it?
