About the Edmonton Motors dealership site (south side of Jasper Ave between 115-116 Streets) - it looks like it could demoed before the end of this year if not next year in the spring - I don't know for sure. The big electronic sign on the SE corner of Jasper and 116th is already gone and has been so for a few months now.

I'm bringing this up as I live very close to that site. There's a proposal to build at least two residential towers on that site in the near future. I seem to recall something of this nature. But how soon could construction start, assuming the housing market doesn't crash big time in the near future (I wouldn't be surprised as the recent developments in the oilpatch already have real estate developers here quaking in their boots)?

Yes, there's a promotional office for a condo development on the opposite side of Jasper Avenue, but this is for another site a lot closer to the core known as Grandin City - not for the former car dealership site.

I'm guessing that developers are going to have a hard time raising debt now, with lenders getting really skittish. Raising equity partners for a few could also be an impediment. It pains me to hear from a number in the industry how bearish things are after the election.

It depends on what type of project you're doing. We haven't found lenders pulling back or anything like that (yet!), what we've experienced is that it is taking longer to get deals done on the leasing side.

Hopefully this means that eyesore building and vacant lot get developed in the near future. Chinatown can really use more development (in general, not just vacant/eyesore properties).

The group announced plans to convert 12 of Stantec Tower’s 37 residential floors to hotel space on Thursday, a move Oilers Entertainment Group spokesman Tim Shipton says is a bid to capitalize on demand for high-end accommodations.

I figure we will see that space on 29 developed into a restaurant. all the infrastructure is there.
