What's the location?

The parkade behind the Erickson building on the SE corner of Dunsmuir and Thurlow?

I've heard a rumour (not from the model maker) that confirms it's in Vancouver. That said, there's no street names on the model, nor is there any surrounding buildings, it's literally just a tall (between 2 and 3 feet) model on a narrow beam like base.

Hmm, what is the use?

At 36 floors if it is residential it is another table topper (that’s not to say if it has a great design it won’t be a nice addition).

But, if office at 36 floors... we could have something taller than the Stack!

Also, is it even for Vancouver? Or could it be the office tower component of Gilmore Station (said to be BC’s tallest office project).

As you suggested, an exoskeleton design seems to suggest office. But not necessarily.

So, hopefully Feathered Friend will post his photos of the model today, as promised, and we can get a better sense of its possible use then.

Agreed, a view-blocking exoskeleton suggests office to me, too,
although 8X on the Park has the diamond shaped one, and the Cardero has those "flying nun"-like sun shades.

Hidden under a bag over the weekend, this model was on display yesterday at Granville Island. We've heard rumours this ~36 floor building will be located in Vancouver, but unfortunately, we can't say for sure. A special thanks to the SkyscraperPage Forum for this tip.

That looks office to me!

Going to guess Gilmore Place.

If it is downtown, very excited to see where!

Yeah, not a fan of the "permanently under construction" look.

Based on the recent renders, I would be surprised if it was the Gimore Office building. (side note, I also imagine that the Gilmore Office tower will end up with a significant rental housing component)

I love it. Vancouver never had a proper tower built with that style.

Maybe the addition to the Bentall complex? Sort of has a New York feel to the look. At least when build it will make for another great spot for film sets for movies based in New York but filmed in Vancouver.

At 36 floors plus mechanical penthouse is it not too tall for what we have heard about the Bentall site?

At that floor count should be around the height of the Stack, maybe taller?

Same here. It has a similar rectangular shape and the floor count perfectly matches the Gilmore office tower info we have so far. Moreover, the base of the tower has an open pedestrian transit plaza look to it, which is inconsistent with Vancouver office buildings but again matches the Gilmore office tower renderings and fits well with the overall TOD design of Gilmore Place.

The podium looks too clean for Gilmore Place. Doesn't it also seem like one side of the model is darkened for some reason, not sure what to read into that.

Those dimensions are too narrow to be the office tower at Gilmore Place. If you Google Satellite view the Bentall Centre, the footprint of this tower seem to perfectly fit where the parkade is. My bet is definitely on this site!

Hmm, well if any city in the world could squeeze 36 floors of office into less than 138 meters of height, it would be Vancouver...
