What if we use other stations to transfer. Well, I guess the only other station option is Bayview. Why can't we drop some people off at Bayview?

And in that logic, drop some east enders off at St. Laurent?

Bayview is not designed for significant bus transfers. The other issue is Hurdman. This was also a bad decision given that the C-Line equally poorly services the south end of the city.

I would argue that the old south end is well served, with the South-East Transitway connecting to both O-Train Lines. Though the 2 year shut-down of Trillium will prove to be quite a challenge, for little improvements once it re-opens in 2023, other than a few additional stations.

This already happens with Pimisi and the handful of routes going to Gatineau.

They still have to stop at Tunney's though so it's not exactly effective, or useful..

The former two's buses are ridiculously unreliable now as they were before the opening of Line 1, but that's another issue.

It is not realistic to force EVERYONE from the west end to transfer. The City should have maintained direct to downtown routes for those who live within the Greenbelt and often use transit beyond just commuting.
I tend to agree. It is one thing to have the Rapid and Connexion routes coming in on the transitway to terminate at Tunney's Pasture, but having Local and Frequent routes terminate there (or other station just outside of downtown) is a whole other thing. The only two routes at Tunney's that don't terminate there are routes 11 and 16. Frequent routes 14, 51, 53, 80, 87 and local routes 50, 54, 56, 58, 64, 66, 73, 81, 82, 83, 84, 86, 89, 153 all terminate at Tunney's. Many of those did terminate there before the transition, but that is still a lot of buses terminating at one station when you add all the Rapid and Connexion buses.

Not affecting Tunney's Pasture, but I would even have change route 85 to go downtown again (and have a different route serve Hull from Pimisi).

Having two platforms is actually helpful in this regard, as it gives them twice as much space for people to wait. Imagine what the crowds would be like if they only had one centre platform.
Not really, a center platform is often the same width as the two sides out together. I think it makes the crowds worse because people get stuck on the "wrong" platform. Tunney's is just generally badly designed as a Terminus, especially the busiest Terminus

Interesting. I would have figured the centre platforms to have been wider, but not twice as wide. I do agree that Tunney's has design issues as a terminus station. They may need to control how many people go down to platform level on each side.

I have read that dwelling times are 1m40s in downtown stations? How is that possible to be that long?

That can't be true. I take the train everyday from/to downtown stations and I've never experienced dwell times like that. It is possible my perception of time is way off though

I have been a critic of Ottawa’s transit system but we must get this right. For modal share, for riders, for resident’s paying for the system. This needs to work. After some tough but good discussion with Mr. Manconi today, I feel we are moving in this direction. #ottLRT 1/3

Where are you getting that? All I can see is 1m25s and that's at Tunney's Pasture so it would be total turnaroind time.

Definitely not, not even in the height of rush hour. They added 8-10 seconds this week to the original 20-30 second dwell times.

Despite some minor delays this week things definitely are running smoother. I see Twitter people keep complaining about packed trains, but at least at the times I ride during rush hour, I don't think Ottawans know what "packed" means.

University students are off this week, which might explain in part why trains seem less packed and more reliable. Hopefully the 14 trains will be on line by Monday.

No idea where you read that but that is absolutely false. The longest dwell times on the system are approx. 40 seconds during peak periods. If they dwell longer than that it is for reasons other than waiting for alighting/boarding.

From tweets in the article. I guess people were confused between turnaround times and dwell times.

I wonder if it is possible to just get permanently coupled Citadis Spirit trains in the future without the two redundant cab units in the middle.

Did not know they weren't the same week. Thanks!

Agreed. Massive waste of space. We blindly ordered the 38 Stage 2 vehicles without making any modifications. I get that it was done well before the launch, but the City could have at least accepted feedback from the public based on the model we had at Lansdowne or just general observations from OC staff.

Hopefully, more thought will be put into the Stage 3 order.

It is also possible that they hope to get the coupling issues resolved so that they can run singles on weekends. Having said that, they probably already have enough short trains to run singles after stage 2 since they end up with double the number of trains. Even if they didn't, having an occasional double train wouldn't be the end of the world.
