Has there been an uptick of people trying to avoid the C-Line problem by using the remaining bus routes going into downtown. A perfect example is the now cancelled west end of Route 14. Are extra people trying to transfer to the remaining section of Route 14?

I'm in the fire Manconi camp and have been for a while. But it's getting obvious that the Mayor and Council played in a substantial role in this terrible launch. And firing Manconi means he can tell everyone all their misdeeds and bad ideas.

Made me think of the A380 evacuation test which is both impressive and definitely not how it would happen in real life emergency.

I highly doubt OCTranspo did any of this "at-scale" testing.

I was monitoring trains during the rush this morning and the dwell time issue has already improved substantially. Trains are keeping doors open at the busiest stations for minimum 30 seconds, often closer to 35. I also witnessed door closures cancelled before closing (door chime started and then cancelled) to stay open a few seconds longer, seemingly by manual control. In 1 instance the operator even told passengers over the train speaker system to refrain from holding doors open, reassuring them that he's manually keeping the doors open for everyone to alight/board.

The door issue at Bayview, however, is concerning. The fact a train got immobolized because a passenger used a built-in function, as opposed to a forceful action, doesn't sit well with me. I'm surprised the door button even worked to begin with - they've been completely inactive until now.

I wonder if as part of the tweaks they made to the doors, they accidentally/unintentionally changed a software setting that allowed this to happen.

I do agree with earlier posts that OC did a good job recovering quickly from this incident.

I mean more than 4. There were at least 5 or 6 LRVs in the shed over the summer.

I do think within the next week or so, things will be running smoothly. That doesn't excuse the entirely foreseeable launch issues.

Outside of about 7:30 to 8:30 in the morning, the trains seem wonderful.

Difficult to say what happened there. I'm keeping my ears open for any indications. Until then I'll refrain from speculating.

I also must admit I was surprised at how well things went after the train at Bayview was immobilized. I was stationed east of Lyon, where the turn-around took place and there was only about a 12-minute gap in westbound service. Not sure how well things went on the Tunney's to Lyon section, though. I did hear R1 buses responded very quickly to help clear passengers at Tunney's, which is nice.

Really? That's ridiculous but not surprising. Would you mind sharing where you saw that?

This was on CFRA on Monday morning. Hubley was being interviewed and the conversation covered Meehan's commute that she was tweeting as she headed to city hall.

Here's the interview where he bashes Meehan, basically calling her a liar. I don't know if this is the interview where he mentions he was driving or if it was another. He did quite a few this week.

Today, he was asked by Bill Carroll what number he lost (because of the 95 nostalgia going around) and he deviated the question. You know why? Cause' he doesn't take transit!! Our transit chair does NOT. TAKE. TRANSIT!

EDIT: and then he calls Carol Anne Meehan a liar for saying the trains are packed and had to wait 7 minutes for the next one. "She chose to not get on the train", he says. and instead of explaining the next train leaves from the other platform in 3 minutes and its a 7 minute if you wait on your current platform, he calls her a liar (paraphrasing).

Realistically, if you're a Tunney's and you can't take the train because it's too overcrowded, you're not going to run upstairs and back down to the other platform, because you'd then be at the back of the line again. Better wait the 7 minutes at the edge of the platform fr the next one on your side.

EDIT 2: apparently "we WANT the trains to be full". That's how its going to pay for itself. Forget passenger experience, or safety, or accessibility (can't get on with a wheel chair or walker or baby carriage, that's for damn sure). No No!! We WANT crush load. That's the most profitable way to go!

EDIT 3: leaving people behind is fine, Hubley says.

It boggles my mind that during this important transition to LRT our transit commissioners have been from a rural ward and one who likely hasn't used transit in decades. But as Watson apologists they are at the front of the line for committee appointments.

I saw Hubley interviewed last night on CBC news, he said that we shouldn't worry about the LRT since Monday was fine as well as Tuesday PM.

Hubley clearly doesn't understand his mandate as a Transit Chair. Instead of looking for answers and solutions, and pressuring RTG, OCT and the City to deliver, he gets on the defensive and is scrambling for excuses for them. Pathetic.

The reason why they want to increase fares is because they don't want to raise taxes to help pay for transit, yet with a continually dropping ridership that pays for the service, they have a continually decreasing profit. Instead, they should address the actual concerns about reliability that is appalling and lower fares in order to entice people to actually use transit. If people think it's reliable, affordable, and will get them where they want to go on time, then ridership would increase.

I've said this to others, but I think John Manconi should resign (though he won't with his $280k salary) and they should select a councillor who actually cares about and understands transit issues, and that councillor and new General Manager should be required to ONLY take public transit to get around. That way, the Transportation Chair and GM will experience firsthand transit problems on a regular basis that they will be motivated to fix the problems and get things right from the start for new projects.
I agree. Furthermore, transit commissioners should be elected by the public or be representatives of the ATU

Sarah Gilbert has been active on social media and I believe in commission meetings as well. I couldn't name another one.

So with all the issues around doors... will the next phase use different Trains or at least incorporate lessons learned?

Exact same trains. Already ordered and many of them are near completion. If they do make any changes to the current fleet, no doubt they will do the same for the new order.
