City seeks approval for Memphis Fairgrounds Planned Development
By Elle Perry/ The Daily Memphian
Quote:
The city plans to build a new 200,000-square-foot sports and events complex, featuring a multipurpose building that can hold basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, gymnastic, track and other sports competitions, as well as trade shows, graduations and other special events... The city also plans a 700,000-square-foot, mixed-use development of retail stores, restaurants, hotels, entertainment, commercial office space and multifamily residential on the northern end of the site — along Central Avenue — called “the Village District.”... Parking will initially be all surface parking, but as density increases, according to the city, it will install parking decks and if needed, a parking garage.
