You aren't, you just rarely harp on anything so it's notable.

You're also not wrong, the spandrel is unfortunate. I don't find it quite as obvious while coming over the bridge, but I'd rather it not be there that's for sure.

From this vantage point when the deck of One Burrard Place is prominent in this pic, we can witness one of the milestone of a skyscraper's build, the half way mark (to the very top of the crest).
I believe the deck here is the 24th or maybe 25th floor.

I actually don't mind the spandrel in the concrete lattice, even though it makes the lattice a bit of a lie. That's what spandrel is traditionally meant for - a panel filling in the recesses behind the more prominent expressive ribs of the facade. It's the spandrel everywhere else on the tower and podium where it just looks like the architect forgot to design it.

I'd love to hear from the main players in the aesthetic of this Drake st. facing facade. The architect shows us his vision (no spandrel), the building engineer or stress–strain analysis tells us what is possible (spandrel for the stress or sway relief openings?) and the builder or owner telling us how much we can spend (doesn't pay extra for more custom windows, spandrels are cheaper). It's an ambitious tower design with that signature arch center piece and half of the facade angled inwards.

I don't know about stress or sway relief openings, but much of the spandrel is likely to reduce solar gain or where poor interior design has walls abutting a window.
The spandrel should be more reflective so they don't stand out so much.

After viewing mcminsen last set of pics, you can now see and foresee the dull non-reflective grey panels pattern or non-pattern. A glassy reflective material would also be my prefrence.

That's what's weird - I don't know if it's just the angle or what.
The spandrel on the alley side looks more reflective than the spandrel on the south side in the pics.

Are they entertaining any plans to illuminate that center arching feature?
Would be a nice accent during these long dark days.
