I like the plans for the old school, hopefully they will do something similar with Booth. The only question I have however is do we have the right market for so many seniors homes, it seems to be saturated at this point and there are still a few more on the books (At least two for Pleasantville still on the drawing board)

I was disappointed that the old I J Samson school was not reused but instead razed for blah townhouses that aren't selling very well. A very different view by two very different developers.

Overheard people with an oil company talking about how their lease expires next year at their current location, downtown, and that the company is looking to get a place in the east end, possibly the old Rona or Costco building.

Suncor moved over a year ago from the Scotia Centre to Kelsey Drive. Exxon Mobil is moving from Cabot Place to Hebron Way next year. The only other biggie I know of is Husky and they signed a long term lease to rent four floors of the new 351 Water building. There are smaller players like Statoil but they wouldn't need a space as big as Costco or Rona. Maybe I'm missing someone?

I think there are still a few offshore players in Atlantic Place, I can certainly see where they would want to make a run for the outskirts where it is parking friendly.

Rough estimates here but I'd say Aker has 40-50 employees in AP while Nexen and Chevron are exploration/business development with only 10-20 employees.

Husky has a long term lease so I doubt this is an accurate rumor unless Equinor decides to ramp up staffing significantly.

Husky is also pretty proud and happy with their space at 351 (I was there a few years ago, and it's really nice). So if the rumor are true, I'd look elsewhere.

Don't forget you have one of the biggest EPC Contractors (Wood.) currently residing in the Bowring building, who service Suncor, Exxon and Hebron. They are 200 plus employees in their current location and with the recent purchase of Amec Foster Wheeler....maybe they are looking for a new Location.

They're baaaack !! I was just browsing the agenda for the City's Built Heritage Experts Panel meeting this Tuesday past and one of the items was a new LUAR received for the hotel atop Atlantic Place. Unfortunately the LUAR was not attached.

Through some clever manipulation a few years ago the AP garage is NOT part of any heritage area and is a zone all to itself. Could be interesting to see how this plays out. Stay tuned!

AkerSolutions have over 200+ employees in AP. They are not moving anytime soon. It could be Wood following ExxonMobil.

If the proposed AP hotel went ahead, it would be good for the oil company folks coming in and out of town.

Is anyone else hoping verafin kicks off a tech industry boom here in St. John's? All I know is I wanna see more development, I almost get depressed reading through old forums like tiffany and deacon. Has anybody contacted the developers on these projects recently btw? I've heard Verafin might be putting in one or two more buildings up behind the Crosbie Group building on Hebron Way. Can anybody speak to this? I'm bored someone give me some good news here lol

I hear you on that! The tech industry is growing and, according to a story I linked a few days ago, NL is outpacing the national rate. It's just that it's still in its infancy, so an above average growth it still not large enough to make a visible difference. But if it continues to grow, development will likely grow with it. $500+ million is a massive amount of capital! It'll definitely add a boost to the industry. Something like has the potential to generate a lot momentum. Time will tell.

The tech industry is the one to watch in terms of diversification. They can do business all over the world from right here.

There is a rather large structure currently going up right in front of the Verafin building. No idea what it is.
