Even with the coming dramatic shift in weather, Calgary is still set to finish off the month likely right on seasonal for avg highs, and considerably above our average mean. This past weekend and the past couple days have been fabulous...

Photos from Friday to Sunday...

It seems as if the first colours of fall this year are trending more orange/red than the usual yellow. I know that trees like maples can exhibit all those colours. I wonder if our cold nights from last week may have something to do with it (supposedly best fall colours come from a combination of warm, sunny days and cool/cold nights).

Too early to say yet. There's still so few trees with any colour. I expect we'll get our usual and (consequently, at least for us) boring yellow.

We must be on the good side of the jet stream again. The wind has changed and humidity and temperature are building again after the influx of cool air last evening. My weather station just broke 25 degrees for the sixth day in a row. The normal high for this date is 22C.

^ This is always a nice time of year in SW Ont. No place in Canada beats this region for weather in September and October.

Month to month best place for me in Canada:

January & February: Victoria
March: The Fraser Valley
April, May, June, July & August: The South Okanagan
September & October: Southern Ontario
November & December: Victoria

Just my preference.

Much cooler today. It was actually below normal.

17C and cloudy.

Low of 14C. Still cloudy but at least mild.

The warmspot was Windsor, ON at 24.4C

Interesting idea.

Jan-Mar: Victoria
Apr-May: Okanagan
June-Nov: Southern Ontario
December: Montreal

Victoria throws up a big middle finger to the rest of the country once New Years ends with spring like weather, Okanagan rapidly warms to summer like temps, southern Ontario brings the 24/7 warmth for the summer, fall is mild, dry and colourful, Montreal is beautiful for the holidays, snow and cold. I want to experience all the seasons still, just with a short winter.

It's so miserable today. Cold, wet, overcast.

Dec-Feb Victoria
Mar-Apr Vancouver
May-Nov SW Ontario

November, especially the first half, is better in SW Ontario than in BC. December to February is not good anywhere, but at least doesn't freeze as much in BC. Spring is best in all the warm parts of BC, fall is better in Southern Ontario. I choose Ontario over BC in the summer because I like the warm nights.

Those are peach trees. They don't grow them like that anymore, now they are staked and strung up on wires like at a vineyard so all the branches get maximum sun (like the apple trees in the other pic)

Winds were up here yesterday and today. Leaves seem to be holding on though, so we may still have a week or 2 of dramatic colours.

There is a drive in North Edmonton (97st north of 137th ave) with willows that turn bright red in the fall. most are still yellow green but in the next week it should be quite the drive. just have to watch out for all the photographers doing family portraits.

The wind was quite high yesterday. was out at a project site and the contractor needed to flair a natural gas line. they had quite the time lighting it.

We still have four lows over 20 in our forecast, including a low of 24 on Monday. But it all goes to shit next Friday, a low of 9 and a high of 13 is in the forecast.

12 to 14 and partly cloudy in Victoria just after 9am. Forecast for today calls for a high of 17 with a mix of sun and cloud.

Yesterday was great. Highs of 21 (Airport); 21 (UVic) & 20 (Langford).

Calgary's forecast changed, and doesn't seem as harsh as it was before (I'm looking at you weather network and its dramatic headlines). Only "chance of flurries" now with temperatures improving back to the teens next week. None of any snow that happens should stick to the ground.

We can freeze any time now. It's unlikely this early but has regularly happened:

Sept. 20 (1980) was our earliest freeze. It got down to -0.4C.

We've never frozen on Sept. 21 or 22.

Sept. 23's record low is -1.1C in 1950.

Sept. 24's is -0.6C in 1955.

Sept. 25's is -0.8C in 1979.

We've never frozen Sept. 26, 27, or 28.

Record low for Sept. 29 is -0.5C in 1986.

And for the 30th it's -0.3C in 1980.
