Thomas Cook Group just went belly up......

Condor is a part of Thomas Cook Group. They are still operating, but applied to the German Government for some much needed cash. Let's see what happens.

AC Long Haul updates:

LHR - 333 replacing 789 from 29MAR20 - 13JUN20 & again in mid September.

Still no update for NRT yet.

I wonder with the strong international growth and the impressive transborder numbers that the two are connected. Could YYC be getting more US passengers connecting on the new WS Europe flights?

Definitely. The added flights to SFO and PHX on WS explains it.

Transborder also saw increases from AA & DL as well. But WS adding 5 new routes and extra frequencies sure did help a bit.

The transborder increase was 12,448 passengers. This translates to 200 additional departing passengers per day. Based on all the increases this summer this suggests a lot of the additional capacity hasn’t been taken up. Forgetting everything else the two extra daily SFO and PHX flights would have added about 260 departing seats per day.

Cargo stats for Canadian Airports for 2018 released by Stats Canada.

Although a decent improvement since the poor 2016 year, over the 2014-2018 period YYC has been pretty stagnant for cargo growth. Since YYC doesn’t release monthly cargo stats I would bet 2019 will show a decent increase.

I hear you but only 200 additional departing pax per day would not be filling all the new flights. 200 pax is the equivalent of only 1 319 and 1 CR9. Even with a 75% LF on the new flights the increase should be closer to 8% (similar to July’s increase).

More AC long-haul updates:

LHR - 333 replacing 789 from 29MAR20-14JUN20
FRA - 77W replacing 789 from 29MAR20-30APR20
NRT still remains unchanged.

This means for a month, AC won't be running a 787 on any of its long-hauls from YYC.

Two and a half mile viz and snow. I was in YYC end of April. It was snowing. It`s snowing now. When is it you guys have summer weather exactly?

No wonder some people don't believe in global warming. Jeez......

There was no summer this year. It was held hostage by Eastern Canada and apparently still is.

I thought I would chime in with some YYC-Europe PAX stats from 2018. This information is sourced from https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/data/database and https://www.caa.co.uk/Data-and-analysis/UK-aviation-market/Airports/Datasets/UK-airport-data/. The data available from the EU website provides information on PAX, seats, and number of flights for international routes to/from EU countries.

2018 PAX (Annual LF in brackets):
1. LHR - 291,248 (Seat data was only available through August 2018)
2. AMS - 209,106 (95.2%)
3. FRA - 208,785 (87.2%)
4. LGW - 134,547 (Same as LHR)

2017 PAX:
1. LHR - 305,003 (81.7%)
2. AMS - 203,198 (93.0%)
3. FRA - 191,366 (82.2%)
4. LGW - 131,049 (85.7%)

For 2019, AMS was up in PAX through the first 5 months of the year. LGW is also way up due to WS. LHR was also up over 1,000 PAX in August this year so AC and BA are obviously still filling up their aircraft during the summer months, even with WS going daily 789.
