Problem there is that Alma's station needs to connect with the 7 and 32. What might happen is one at Alma, then one near the soccer field. Or Alma and Trimble (replacing Sasamat).
who said 'small'? I said normal-sized stations dotting the length of the campus instead of one overbuilt station / terminus for the whole campus.

it's UBC's land and money, so they might spend whats needed to get the best results for themselves. That might mean cut n cover along a mall from T-bird Stadium to Chan Center & onwards to the Jericho Lands to offset the cost of some extra UBC stations. perhaps the line might be elevated on campus between the Chan and T-bird stations.

Cut an cover at that point wouldn't piss off nearly as many people as it did with the Canada line. Anyone know more about the possibilities of it surfacing and continuing as an elevated extension towards UBC?

Fair enough, smallER stations. Thing is, it still bypasses Lelem and Point Grey Village, at least one of which I'm sure the planners want to hit. And a normal-sized elevated station is still around $30+ million, and an underground one is $100 million. Add the cost of the guideway and other things, and the cost would be well beyond $100-300M, which likely would be paid by TransLink (and us)... to save >$120M for a slightly bigger station that'd be well-equipped for future demand?

Don't forget that the plan covers a station at Wesbrook too, so UBC Central isn't the final or only stop. Maybe save Thunderbird and the Chan Centre for the 41st Line?

Seems likely. Read somewhere that a subway's vibrations would mess up the physics labs.

Perhaps a small spur line down to the beach would make sense.

is Vancouver ready for this announcement: the next stop is ... UBC - 'wreck Beach'?

it might become the most popular stop on the line.

Anybody know what's happening with this over the next 6 months or so?

I see the trolley line re-location is still happening, after not much action over the summer.

Heh, well, TransLink literally tells you to:

Quote:
Visit engage.gov.bc.ca/broadwaysubway to learn more about how the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will deliver the project.
Aside from that, I wouldn't expect any news until the bids are revealed sometime next year.

Station locations announced:

https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news...way-skytrain-station-locations-announced

Quote:
Great Northern Way – to be located on the east side of Thornton Street, just north of Great Northern Way. The government says this station will create better access to Emily Carr University of Art and Design’s Great Northern Way Campus and the emerging creative economy hub in the False Creek Flats.

Mount Pleasant – to be located at the southwest corner of Broadway and Main Street.

Broadway-City Hall – this station will use the existing entrance to the Canada Line at the southeast corner of Broadway and Cambie Street and will provide an underground connection between the
Millennium and Canada lines.

Fairview-VGH – this station will be located on the southwest corner of Broadway and Laurel Street, near Oak Street. This location will provide access to Vancouver General Hospital and the rest of the medical district.

South Granville – this station will be located on the northeast corner of Broadway and Granville Street near the South Granville, Burrard Slopes and Granville Island neighbourhoods.

Arbutus – this station will be located at the northeast corner of Broadway and Arbutus Street. This station and bus loop will connect passengers destined for the University of British Columbia with B-Line bus service.
"Names not final" of course. Any details in here we didn't know? I thought the Main/Broadway station would be on the south EAST corner, where the surface parking lot is now. Not the old bank, current Tim Hortons building.

Seems like they own most of the block so they'll also use it for staging. I guess the space on the east side of the road isn't big enough unless you tear down more buildings south of the parking lot.

Also they'll tear down that relatively new retail beside the Tim Hortons?

Also tearing down most of the buildings along Broadway next to the station for staging.

They aren't building the Granville station mid-block on the City/Translink (?) owned property but they'll tear down most of those buildings for staging. I guess PCI will announce redeveloment plans on their building soon.

Fascinating that the staging and construction footprints of the sites are also illustrated. Each other of these should become a significant commercial TOD project for which Translink would provide land in exchange for an equity stake in a developer-built project. This would raise serious permanent revenue for Translink and should be the development model going forward.

M-Line isn't getting it's own entrance at City Hall? I'd say that entrance is already "at capacity" as far as usage goes.

^^ You mean City Hall?

I am also disappointed at the lack of a new entrance for that station. I'm hoping this info today is just 'indicative' rather than set in stone. Maybe we'll see some additional entrances when the contractor is chosen and more detailed designs are released.

Seems to confirm the theory that a 40 storey tower is planned for Granville Broadway.

I was hoping there would be a station at Oak (especially since the COV owns the SW property), but I suppose Laurel would do. I wonder where the staging area would be for that?

Sure, AFTER I say there won't be any more news this year, heheh.

It certainly seems that Broadway-City Hall's future foot traffic requires much more than 5-8 faregates and one station. Not sure what's going on there... or why Arbutus is apparently still a WIP.

And why buy out all those properties if only a fraction are stations or staging areas? Is TransLink adopting the Hong Kong business model?
