I was at the Winners/Homesense in the Rise on Cambie on friday and they had loads of Keen shoes/hikers around $59.99 & up

That's the store I have usually seen them. I went to the Park Royal later that day and saw none, but they did have a lot of Lacoste shoes there which I haven't really come across at a winners before.

I saw those too on Saturday.
I've also seen Keen sandals at Nordstrom Rack in the US.

The Park Royal Winners is a high-end Winners (ie West Vancouver demographic) - even more so than the Granville & Robson store (but hard to tell because stock probably flies out the door faster at Granville & Robson).

Miniso on West Broadway in Fairview has closed down. Sounds like it might have been part of their bankruptcy deal.

Great news for that block on Robson. It has been far too long for such a prime retail location to stay empty. COS would compete well with Zara there.

It says it would be the typical British-style brick facade of the original shops in London, no?

it's taking over both spaces, at least a paint job, it sounds like they will open in the fall which isn't too far away, a pre-Christmas opening for sure, To redo the facade would take a long time though?

The COS Vancouver flagship store will be located at 1070-1080 Robson Street, sources tell Daily Hive. This is a significant two-storey, 9,000-sq-ft location, replacing spaces that previously occupied Armani Exchange and BCBGMAXAZRIA.

Also this:

Quote: COS’ new location will offer menswear, womenswear, kidswear, incorporating the retailer’s latest contemporary brick-and-mortar designs.

But not sure if they will also apply that to the facade: probably not.

From the Financial post regarding Eataly: Vancouver is somewhat mentioned as per the chain expansion in Canada. Perhaps they can open up at The Post, or Brentwood mall? Surely the highly paid Tech workers working at the Post and across the streets can afford lunching at the offerings of this fine establishment.

I call it a food mall.

'We're not a food hall': Eataly's Andrea Guerra on the company's Canadian expansion, its split from Batali and what you should call it
The chain of luxury grocery and restaurant complexes devoted to Italian cuisine is coming to Canada this fall. Here's a look at its plans

Eataly, the chain of luxury grocery and restaurant complexes devoted to Italian cuisine, is expected to open its first Canadian location this fall after years of planning and construction.

The 50,000-square-foot Toronto flagship — which will have three levels and include a grocery store, a fresh market, four restaurants and half a dozen bars, counters and coffee shops — is the first step in what Eataly’s executive president, Andrea Guerra, sees as a legitimate expansion into Canada, one that could eventually see locations added in Montreal and/or Vancouver.

Andrea Guerra, Eataly’s executive president.
The Financial Post’s Jake Edmiston spoke to Guerra — over the phone from the tiny Italian island of Ponza — about the company’s plans. The following has been edited and condensed for space.

Q:The concept of Eataly can be a little bit nebulous. How would you explain it?

A: It’s an experience. This is what you need to think about. It’s a bit like going to a theatre, where you’re not observing a play but you’re enjoying it, you’re part of it. If you really want a specific comparison, I would go for the traditional open-air food markets in Italy where you have people sitting down in a bar, you have people buying fresh food and there would be a little place where you can have some food and drink some wine. This is what we are. We’re not a supermarket, we’re not a restaurant, we’re not a food hall, we’re not a food court.

The rise of the ‘grocerant’: Grocery stores are stealing restaurant’s best ideas with ready-to-eat meals
Ottawa-based grocery chain Farm Boy looks to southern Ontario and Toronto for growth
The death — and rebirth — of the supermarket ethnic aisle
Q: You’re basically opening a dozen restaurants, bars and supermarkets at once. Running one of those well is hard enough — how do you manage all of them?

A: We’ve gotten used to this. First of all, it’s the amount and the scale you’re able to (achieve) in one single place. The volume Eataly is able to get weekly is much bigger than a single restaurant or two restaurants can achieve because we are not just attracting people for one place.

Q: What’s the biggest revenue generator? Dining or the retail side?

A: I would say, normally, when we have a flagship, it’s 50-50. In Toronto, we expect 50-50. We expect the market to be large. We really think people will do their weekly shopping inside Eataly.

Q: If Toronto is such a slam dunk for you, why did it take you opening nearly 40 locations — in Italy, the U.S., Turkey, Germany — before you came here?

A: You know, when you’re a small company, I think it’s very, very important to be focused and to do one step at a time. So in North America, we had this big objective to really build a huge pillar in the United States, which is what we have done. And now we’re ready to move into all of North America and Canada has been the first place to go, before other places in Central America. And I think that Canada will allow us to have more than one spot.

Q: Where would you go next?

A: First of all, Toronto probably — being the largest city — could host a second Eataly. And then, between Montreal and Vancouver, there could be another Eataly. I really think Canada can be a big place for us. The basic culture of Canada is much closer to Europe than to the United States.

Q: The celebrity chef Mario Batali helped put Eataly on the map on the U.S. How has his separation from the company (following a allegations of 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 misconduct) affected your business?

A: I would say that there has been no impact. It’s many years now that we don’t have any operational relationship with Mr. Batali. And we are in the process of buying his very minority shares in our U.S. subsidiary. So he is not an Eataly shareholder. He was a very small shareholder of our American subsidiary. Nothing to do with Canada. Canada is directly linked to Eataly holding in Italy. (Eataly announced it had purchased Batali’s shares in its U.S. subsidiary after this interview was conducted.)

Q:In addition to partnering with Selfridges — the luxury retailing group controlled by the Weston family — you received some help from the owners of the Terroni restaurant chain as part of your move into Canada. Why?

A: We had a really fantastic project and journey with the Terroni family, which is now over — because we wanted to learn what a great entrepreneurial family had done in Toronto in the food and beverage area. We talked about menus, we talked about suppliers, we talked about flavours, we discussed dishes, we have seen their different venues, how the food and beverage industry was moving from restaurant to casual.

Q: Do you think people in Toronto understand what Eataly is?

A: No doubt. I think Toronto is an Italian city. For sure Toronto will get it.

Really hope-so, the facade of Robson Centre Place worked 20 years ago but flagship stores these-days tend to do much more bold signature facades, much like Sephora across the street. All they can do with the existing facade is put up a small awning with the COS logo on it.

If they do make a big change to the facade maybe Zara will follow suit, that location seriously needs an update.

The Eataly opening in Toronto is located at the Manulife Centre at Bloor Street: basically a revamped luxury mall. Exciting times for the neighbourhood.

the two facades don't even match, BCBG matches J Crew.

The article says it will open with the Fall/Winter 2019-20 collection, most stores start their Spring collections in January or so.

That's why I was wondering.
But the J- Crew store facade (or at least the roof-top balustrade) would have to be redone to maintain symmetry for J Crew.
A Fall opening probably means no reno.

"bricks and mortar" stores means "physical" stores (as opposed to e-commerce).
It doesn't mean the store will be have a brick facade.

WRT Eataly - maybe at the Post (just because it has the space), but in terms of customers, the office density around there isn't as much as deeper into the CBD, and in terms of residents, it's not all that close to any luxury condos, and the downtown eastside is only a few blocks to the north. I could see them opening there, but question whether they would survive long term.
(ie offices will be: Deloitte, Amazon, 401 West Georgia, Telus Garden, BC Hydro, Library Square, CBC)

The Daily Hive article isn't totally accurate. COS will take the entire 6,000 sq ft former A/X space as well as 3,000 sq ft of the second level of the former BCBG. The ground floor of BCBG will be leased out to another brand (first-to-market).

That will probably resolve itself, J.Crew is in deep doodoo, Pacific Centre store is closed as is the Park Royal store, can't see the Robson one lasting much longer.

Thanks.
I think that means no renovation.

The next location would likely be at Brentwood, as COS was pictured in their leasing brochure last year under the "Brentwood Boulevard" heading.

Interesting.. says that sales in Vancouver are $300 million, which is almost the same as the 5 other Canadian stores combined - $340 million.

Would not surprise me as the same was true for Victoria Secret when the Burrard store opened up. It was one of the highest grossing stores
