Cool. It's not often we get dumps of high-quality photos from Flickr like that anymore.

Speaking of Flickr, here’s a beautiful (albeit a bit overexposed) shot of the northern lights over downtown Calgary a couple weeks ago…

I love in the very last Row-house on the top left before the trees and this weekend is the Leslieville Beerfestival right outside my front door. Perfect stumbling distance.

I was not aware you could see the northern lights as far south as Calgary.

But do you patronize the best pub in all of Leslieville? That being Tasty Chicken House.

My cousin lives down the street from there and I was warned not to go in there.

It's rare, but you can see them on occasion. Usually it takes a big solar storm to see them this far south.

Hell No! Every hood needs a dive bar or two for the down and out. That one won't last much longer though. My locals are AAA on Gerrard and Queen, Farside, and HiLo with a mix of others depending on the time of year. I have seasonal locals. Follow the beer and the environments.

Can't remember if it is Leslieville or South Riverdale. There's apparently an amazing taco/mexican place. I forgot the name before I could try it for myself.

Mexican food is improving quickly in Toronto but, it is still pretty ugly most of the time.

Haha, I used to work in the same row a couple years ago. Not a great setup for an office though.

Cool perspective.

There have been a few instances they've been visible in the Toronto area. Last time I recall was summer 2002, I was in Ajax... and they were quite brilliant despite the urban light pollution.

We used to see them occasionally at our old family cottage about 70km east of Sault Ste. Marie. Dark skies in that area too so the stars were amazing.

That might have been the time when I saw them in Cambridge. My dad lived there at the time and I remember he took us out cause the weather network said they might be out that night cause of a solar ejection. It was cool.

And yes, the Aurora Borealis occurs fairly frequently in virtually all of Alberta, of course it's more common in the north. One has to keep in mind that a city like Sault Ste. Marie is 700 km south of Calgary, and 450-ish km south of the southern border of Alberta.

Augustana Tower is going to fill in the gap nicely between the Leg and the CBD. Overall, the skyline is leaps and bounds better than even 5 years ago.

If the economy/housing market ever turns around, the countless approved proposals will create another huge change in the skyline.

It is very rare, but northern lights can reach even Southern Florida and the Caribbeans.
