That might have been the time when I saw them in Cambridge. My dad lived there at the time and I remember he took us out cause the weather network said they might be out that night cause of a solar ejection. It was cool.
And yes, the Aurora Borealis occurs fairly frequently in virtually all of Alberta, of course it's more common in the north. One has to keep in mind that a city like Sault Ste. Marie is 700 km south of Calgary, and 450-ish km south of the southern border of Alberta.
