While I am not too enthused with the rendering I am willing to see how this turns out. It looks like they are using some decent materials - brick masonry.

the west building still shown clearly at the right of the rendering in post 13983 is a lot different in height, massing and detailing from the "new" rendering of the west building...

I'd argue that it's not "a lot" different Ken. The overall massing is very similar being 4-5 storeys in height on top of a commercial podium.

The Patricia hotel in Forest Heights is being demolished now, which is nice because it's become quite the eyesore these last few years

from a planning perspective they might not be "a lot" different.

from an architectural design perspective, i'd argue that the two most certainly are "a lot" different.

The site was rezoned a while ago and I think that there was a clause in the zoning that if the project didn't start within a certain timeline (a high rise apartment development and seniors housing) that they would lose their zoning. So I think that's why it's being demo'd now.

The site is for sale for ten million which is probably way too much. I doubt you'll see anything happen there any time soon. I wish they had proceeded with the assisted living facility, I'd have loved for the in-laws to be so close vs. having to drive out to St Albert a couple times a week

Hopefully the work actually starts when they are saying because that site has been such an eyesore since they stopped the interior work. When/If it re-opens as a Hyatt, that corner of Jasper will be much improved. Right now, the only active frontages on that entire block (between 102 and 103) are three small businesses (The Hat, Smokers Corner and Remedy)

^ I don't know what's going on over there.. one of the contractors we use had a LOI to proceed on a bunch of work in there late last year and that was abruptly pulled early in 2019, and they haven't heard anything since.

I just wish one day that ugly governmental building that looks like prison by legislative grounds will be demolished. With the direct view of the legislative building and specifically a park would greatly improve aesthetics of the city looking from the south. It is something that needs to be done eventually IMO.
And they have something that looks like the greenhouse (?!) On amazing spot.. a symbol of farmers town ������

They had actually installed bracing on parts of the building made of 2x4 to prevent it from collapsing I guess?

That thing turned into one of the biggest eyesores in the city. Good riddance.

I emailed them regarding the prices. 2 bedroom condos are going for 600K which is ridiculous for Edmonton.
