Old Sears Upper Parkade behind BMO and Tower 3 is now cordoned off for Construction

I walked past there tonight and spotted a large square hole about 10ft x 10ft and a few feet deep off to the side.

Wonder what that is for?

I also noticed they cleared up the inside of Sears quite a bit.
Most of the old partitions that were there for the longest time since store closure are now gone.

Ductless AC requires a small hole to be drilled through the building envelope for the hot/cool lines to pass through, thus why strata approval would be needed. Especially in a concrete building as you need someone to cut through the concrete rather than in a wood frame building. Most of these types of installs would have the compressor unit out to the balcony, and the air circulation unit(s) inside.

I see some balcony railings, so it looks like we'll soon see whether the balcony glass will hide the ugly spandrel behind.

Those podium areas are slated for WeWork offices.

I think someone said Tesla is opening a store in the old Sears (?)

I just watched a video on how its done...I can totally see why strata approval would be needed for this LOL.

I'm living in solo phase 2. so glad we have central A/C in the building.

Totally beats opening windows with mosquitos flying in. Without A/C, I think the suite can reach up to 29 degrees Celsius.

Good location for a bank.
It'll generate some traffic in an otherwise dead location and won't deaden a lively area in the off hours.
The rent was probably cheaper there too, looks like a big branch.

I truly envy you because after you arrive at Brentwood station, you can have the choice of either dine in any of the many restaurants on TAB or pick up grocery from Whole food to cook at home. Most importantly you do not need to go off site to pick up grocery. You enjoy AC at your home and TAB is close enough for you to enjoy all their conveniences. Who need hi-fashion or fancy shops at door step while most of us need to focus on day to day living.

Summer ends Sept 23 so they still have over a month.

Sure, but my thinking was more in line with how TAB is saying that openings will start this year, but most things that have been announced don't seem to be opening until 2020. I imagine that Vancity's lease ending at Madison plays a factor, but it'd be pretty weird if it opens up with only Vancity open initially, especially if it's a few months until others do as well.

Tower 3 will probably be topped out by late September based on Mcminsens latest pic! Its been very underwhelming especially when you compare it to towers 1 & 2... Hopefully, the next phase starts excavation soon.

I estimated it will be topped up some time in Jan or Feb 2020 if they go 1 floor per week and also including delays due to stat holidays and crane erections.

Yeah, that's what I think as well. If I recall it is 54 floors.

The only way Tower 3 will redeem itself is if the balcony glass is heavily fritted so they appear as bands across the tower blocked the spandrel behind.
