They've already actually put up some screening. I noticed when I drove by today.

Not quite the same. Alcohol's been legal in Saskatchewan since 1924; cannabis, since 2018. Let some time pass.

Also, alcohol consumption is a lot more mainstream than cannabis. I'm sure, in some people's circles, everyone uses cannabis, but I haven't even smelled a whiff of pot smoke since legalization. I'm sure I know people who use it, but the alcohol market must be orders of magnitude larger than the cannabis market. That may change with time, but I don't get any sense that the cannabis retailers we have now are still having all that much trouble maintaining supply.

Odd that they changed the glazing colour from blue in the render.

Wish more downtown buildings had better facade and artistic lighting. Would love for them to do something with the new Cooperators property regarding this. Also hope they will have more than one ground floor retail/restaurant to streetfront option. That whole stretch of property could use some main floor usage for a more active west side of Albert Street.

Any picture updates regarding Phase 1 of the Victoria Avenue Street/Curb/median/lighting/trees rehabilitation project?

It's an expensive change. Perhaps because the glazing on the first and second floors along Albert Street and 12th Avenue will now extend out to the sidewalk (parallel with the glazing on the tower) they felt they needed to change the glass. Perhaps they may eliminate the horizontal concrete bands on each floor on the south and west sides of the tower? Actually, re-glazing a hi-rise building is more common than you might think.

I wish the owner(s) of the North Canadian Oils Building would re-glaze that tower's many colour mis-matched glass panels. Either that or replace several more panels with additional colours so it looks like a patchwork quilt.

It seems we lack these type of leaders nowadays.
Lots of things that shouldn't have been illegal used to be illegal. Society changes.

We're only the second country in the world (Bolivia being the first I think) to legalize cannabis (elsewhere has always been for medical use, or in limited ways [e.g. the Netherlands, in designated areas only, or the U.S., only in certain states but not federally]). The government played it safe - maybe too safe - and was super careful about the rollout. The black market will gradually fade as the supply issues are solved (distribution channels of the scale needed don't come out of nothing, and medical distribution was comparatively nothing). Remember that even today, there is a black market for tobacco and alcohol, albeit much smaller than the cannabis black market.

And now, back to Regina construction.

Any word on what's actually going in at the old Sears spot in Cornwall?

They're bringing back Maxwell's Amusements with batting cages an arcade and go-karts.

I wish. Honestly, I'm not sure what they have planned.

I don't think anything is happening at this point. I went from the mall to the casino on Sunday, walking through what was once the 2nd floor of the Sears store. There is absolutely no sign of anything going on, other than the old food court furniture being stored in that space. The entrance doors to the mall are still just covered with paper, unlike being covered over on the main floor. It's depressing to walk through that vacant space, and certainly does not make a good first impression for people walking to the mall via the pedways from the Delta Hotel and the casino.

Please post any further Cornwall Centre comments to the Regina Retail thread to keep the Cornwall Centre conversation together in one thread. I only replied in this thread because a few people recently posted comments here.

I'll let other more expert opinions weigh in, but to my untrained eyes that seems like a good plan, much cheaper than building overpasses.

That number seems much lower than has been given in the past. Concrete hasn't suddenly become cheaper. What's the difference? Skeptical me says the people in charge have decided to do this and it will, in actuality, be a lot more expensive than the number they use to sell the public on the project. It's also going to take multiple levels of govt to fund and I see that being a problem.

We spend money where people want it spent. I realize there will be no pleasing the likes of you when it comes to infrastructure development but you should be used to it by now.

It is, however, the job of different levels of government to study and make tough and complicated decisions for the collective and to put forth appropriate short term sacrifices necessary for achieving a greater long-term good for everyone (i.e. carbon tax, CPP, labour and environmental regulations), not only in providing some tangible benefit, but lowering future public costs. This is because all humans are biologically wired to only think short term, wanting instant gratification. Without a government functioning this way, society would fall apart and it would be nothing but the haves vs the have nots. This libertarian populism you always moan about serves the privileged majority only, suppressing minority voices, and is nothing but weak and cowardly leadership for people unwilling to change for the better because they are either too stupid, too lazy, too weak or too greedy to do so. Please take your boring, uninformed and unoriginal opinions elsewhere.
The sad part though, is that he is not wrong.

Are some of you actually suggesting it’s a waste of money to make your main freeway move traffic more efficiently by ridding it of trains that hold up thousands of cars like everyday? At rush hour yet. Are you a capital city or a village? Very quaint to have trains stop traffic on a ring road. Lol.

You have completely misinterpreted the context of my comment, Mr. Calgaian. But thanks for playing nonetheless
