AC schedule changes:
-PHX suspension extended until Sep 30. All MAX8 seems to be removed in Sep.
-YHZ season extended in S20, now starting March 1.
-YXT New route, 1x daily from October 28. (WS attempted this last winter, and previously before that to no success. Curious how AC fares on it.)

Looks like I was a victim of the MAX grounding finally, even though I wasn't on a MAX on any of my legs. It's annoying because I planned the trip around trying out the WS 787 and now I lose that on the return leg and get a brutal return time. It's for an August booking too so I'm a tad surprised the change even happened.

YHZ looks like it's going year-round beginning March 2020.

WS further updated its winter schedule. Lots of Max sun flying, so we’ll see how that turns out.

FLL - Increases to 2x weekly (From January)
BZE - Reduced back to 1x weekly
IAH - Operates 2x daily everyday except Wed & Sat (1x daily)
CDG - Resumes March 12 3x weekly. Previously planned in May
YYZ - 789 extended through winter as expected
LIR - 7M8 replaces 73W 3x weekly

There’s probably more that I haven’t found yet. Full schedule possibly being formally released tomorrow.

Has westjet flying to sun destinations all but disappeared from most non hub cities (I do see that YOW and YYJ has some, are there others?)?

Cancun has WestJet to YHZ, YEG, YLW, YQR, YXE, YWG on top of YOW and YYJ. Swoop also has YHM and YXU, the latter starts later this year.

Punta Cana/Varadero (huge Canadian markets in winter) only have Toronto and
Calgary service on WS.

WestJet has zero sun flights from YUL and YQB. That wasn't the case a few years ago. Maybe with Swoop, they can re-enter some key YUL-South markets, especially now that AC-TS merger will likely happen.

June stats are out. International again had the largest bump by a long shot.

Domestic: 1,102,225 +1.1%
Transborder: 305,217 +5.9%
International: 154,164 +22.1%
June Total: 1,561,606 +3.8%

2019 total: 8,590,407 +4.48%

The intl growth is 27,882 pax which is on average 465 departing pax per day.

The new WS 789s to Europe certainly explain that growth!

The transborder growth is about 280 pax per day. Again explained by WS increases. Nice work.

The last WS presentation I saw had YYC 50/50 O&D vs transfer for their flights. Likely a little higher now since they are not filling 789s with O&D.

Definitely lower. YYC is a reliever hub for YVR for AC.

Its my understanding that Chinese airline network scheduling is done very differently from elsewhere. two big differences:
- Network Scheduling teams work in silos and often countermand each others work. The Long term strategy team (2+ years out) produces a schedule and the 12 month out team removes flights and routes they dont agree with. Gets super interesting when the fight is between the operational guys (3-6 months out) and the strategy guys.
- Other teams in the airline have learned its easier to play one scheduling team against the others.

To operationalize the above to YYC; its possible the desire to cut YYC-HKG is coming from lets say Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). The network strategy groups agree with FP&A but the operational scheduling and marketing teams don't. YYC-HKG is cut from the 12 month out schedule but then gets added back in by 6 month out team.

It’s not uncommon for Chinese airlines to add and drop routes with so little notice sometimes... despite what online schedules say. Just had a new route added here (MEL-Guiyang) and literally loaded less than four weeks before first flight. Where is Guiyang you ask?

Yeah, I know, which is why I added "mystery". For a few weeks, reservation in the winter months wasn't even available, and yesterday with the schedule extension it was re-opened. And I thought I was indecisive.

As for Guiyang, its a city in central China. A old Chinese capitol I believe.
