But then we can make a deal with a developer which makes sense to the city. If the province can get the money back, great, but the city has no authority there so it's irrelevant.

I agree that there's plenty of other developable land available but West Village or whatever it's being called is probably a somewhat high priority for the City. I can't see any developer willing to pay for the cleanup costs which is why the Flames didn't. But does CalgaryNext have to be in that location? The concept is very good and should be suitable for other locations. What the City wants to do will result in no synergy between the facilities which is a shame given the amount of money being spent.

The guy who owns Atlanta United also owns the stadium and the Falcons. Wouldn't it better if we had a stadium that could handle football and soccer? With CalgaryNext that would be a much better possibility than with what the City is proposing to do which is basically fuck all because Nenshi hates the Flames owners. What a stupid post. I hate to break it to you, but what you're hoping for ain't happening. Not sure what will happen with CFL fooftball, but hockey is here to stay. The game, the fans and the league aren't going anywhere. Soccer could end up here someday, and who knows maybe even basketball, but hockey's here to stay for good, and the CFL will be around at least as long as your lifetime.

It won't matter soon. Nenshi on his way out, and we get to start fresh with somebody else. We'll get a new arena, and hopefully a stadium. Those who don't like it can suck it.

They haven't done anything for the city. The municipal taxes that they haven't paid for decades are precisely the reason thousands of smaller businesses have had to make up the gap by paying way more. Why screw thousands of medium and small businesses all for the Flames billionaire owners? We're in a difficult tax situation precisely because of these folks.
