That’s true. That the bridge was provisionally built with 6 lanes from the get-go should have told me something.

The extra capacity on that bridge is probably just seen as truck climbing lanes. The bridge is pretty narrow if that wes envisioned as a nearby term six lane solution.

That’s also true, given that A30’s after all Montreal Bypass/Contournement de Montréal (meaning that a lot of trucks will use it) and that the bridge’s necessarily steep to let large ships go through.

I get it, I like the landscaping along Chinese highways. But when you consider the costs and sheer lengths of road one can understand why that sort of thing doesn't exist here. I suspect that short 'showcase' stretches of landscaped road is probably the best that we're going to get.

One area that is seeing a ton of planting is the 'Highway of Heroes' stretch of the 401 where they are planning to plant 117,000 trees along the highway and 2 million trees within that corridor but not necessarily along the highway. It's about 170 km

They recently rebuilt one of the 401 interchanges here and I can't even imagine the number of trees planted. Atleast 1000 I would say.

Good thing there are oil field portable bridges available. Highway 88 north of Slave lake that was washed out a couple of weeks ago is back up. Drove up yesterday and the 2 bridges washed out have these portable bridges in place until repairs can be made. Slows the drive down having to wait for the traffic signals but is a lot better than drive around the west side of the lake.

They were able to get the highway open again a week after the flooding.

This highway has become a main connector to NWT.

My friends and I have booked an RV for next year after Labour day. I've loosely plotted out the route with roadside attractions. It should be mostly very picturesque except maybe the first section in the U.S before we reach Mount Rushmore or the Devils Tower. Looking forward to getting on the Alaskan Hwy. We are bypassing any major city and sticking to 2 lane hwy's for the most part.

14 days. maybe a bit more. Bringing our dogs and flying back from Whitehorse. Lokking forward to seeing places I've always wanted visit like Superior, Yellowstone, the Rockies, Banff, Jasper, the Yukon and all the hidden gems in between.

14 days is pushing it a bit.

But your choice of highway 40 through Alberta is good. The swing up Highway 93 through Banff to Jasper before hitting Highway 40 is a good choice.

Book your camp grounds as early as you can. The mountain section in Albert tends to sell out.

As for North to Yukon, should be clear sailing anytime. There are some long sections but some nice spots to stop along the route up to Whitehorse.

As for you American section. The wife and I did it a few years back. the Wyoming section can be quite boring. But Devils tower ad mount Rushmore are worth the stops. Also hit up the Geronimo carving. We also stopped at Little Big Horn and Wall drugs.

Try to plan and Get to Skagway on a day the Cruise ships are not in. Usually a Sunday.
