I think that was a reference to their existing building on Broadway.

There was no official mention of any parking included in the new Wawanesa HQ at TNS.

Because the office market isn't hot, and potential tenants are only trading spaces ie no new tenants coming downtown.

With TNS and other more affordable class A space available, why go to Broadway? It's kinda strange that they'd let 10M or whatever that building is worth burn a whole in their pocket.

I don't know what other options they entertained, but something about being at TNS must have really sold them.

Except all those companies already have space. It would take an eternity to fill that building.

Any teasers as to a timeline guys in the know?
True, but as per that same statement and their recent AGM, they'll be using money to buy back stock and invest in a hot industrial market down south.

Maybe they still are interested in developing here again, but they will have other interests as well.

I have a feeling the SkyCity lot is going to sit empty for years to come. It is a prime spot for residential, however, so there's hope for sure. Nevertheless, by the time that mess gets cleared up, it'll be a decade just to wind its way through the courts (and rest assured, they'll be involved)

^ Ooooh

The exterior rendering looks a bit off, I think the curved part just makes it look a little awkward. But the interior is very nice... it's good to see it coming out of the 80s.

Looks interesting. Would like to see the side facing P&M. I wonder if the glass is being changed so it’s not blue-green?

Also, unless it’s just a bad render, appears the skylight is gone.

^^^The concept rendering looks alright. However, anything regarding 201 Portage, whenever news of some sort pops up about it, I am always reminded of what was back when it was home to Canwest Communications. I still lament the loss to our city when the company went down and with it the plans to build a multi-media broadcast centre and plaza on the west side of 201 Portage and adjacent to the Electric Railway Chambers building. How much more exciting things would be in our city with the return of the Jets, development of True North Square, etc. but also a vibrant Portage and Main with an international media company headquartered right here in Winnipeg.

Plus, Mr Asper made a pitch for a 41 floor Manitoba Hydro Tower on the still empty parking lot we know as 416 Main street Imagine how hot that corner would be now?

Doesn’t look like an expansion at all. Just looks like they opened up the window bays and put an awning on. Inside knocked out the walls that form the CRUs.

Yes, I do remember the pitch for Hydro to build at 416 Main. That would have been cool for sure. I think the current location of the Hydro building was probably the next best choice as it sure helped improve that area of Portage Avenue. Hopefully someone will choose to develop 416 Main as it would be a real boost to that area as well.

We could sure use more people here that were like Izzy Asper. He never contemplated moving to Toronto or Calgary but was always steadfast in his support for Winnipeg and the belief that business can be done from here and didn't require relocation to those other cities. If only half the people that left Winnipeg for those other locations had stayed and built their business and careers here in Winnipeg, just think how much more vibrant this city would be. Instead, many chose the road of less resistance unlike Izzy.

Mr. Asper when he was one of the major investors in CanWest Capital they owned the Monarch Life Insurance on Broadway (current WCB building/parking lot) and other land in the area. In his biography he said he wanted to redevelop the Monarch site and other area buildings into a world class development.

Unfortunately his partners in CanWest wanted to sell out their shares to others a nice profit and deprived Asper of his dream of upgrading that part of Winnipeg.

That was the difference between Asper and his contemporaries. He was a visionary and they were short-term profit takers. Their gain was Winnipeg's loss.

It's not more beige, it's less brown. Those tiles/bricks are exactly what's there right now.
