I think its reasonable that someone thought commercial meant a corner store and didn't think about the possibility of a gas station. Still, as long as the gas station can show they are taking extra precautions to prevent leaching into the soil / Carp River... it should go ahead.

The zoning already permits a gas station. The zoning amendment is for the setbacks for the retail building to be closer to the road/further away from the homes (10m to 3m on Terry Fox, 8m to 3m on Tillsonberg). A similar 3m setback was already approved through a previous minor variance in 2013. The proposed gas station meets all the setbacks.

Ya I'm not arguing that, I'm just saying if I was ignorant to the zoning I would be more upset about the gas station than the commercial development. The little retail plaza actually looks pretty nice.

Services are being installed in the empty property at Don Reid and Walkley. I know this property was cleared for a Loblaws Superstore several years ago, but is that still the plan?

I think they've started prep work for the office condo development at St Laurent and Conroy... could that be what you're seeing?

I think the old Loblaws plan (http://ottawa.ca/calendar/ottawa/citycouncil/ec/2005/05-10/ACS2005-PGM-APR-0099.htm) is long dead. I always thought it was an odd location for Loblaws considering their nearby stores at South Keys and Elmvale.

Yes, that is the location. Interesting that Loblaws had assembled quite a bit of land but it appears to be still in the original lot configurations. At that time, modern buildings including the CFRA building were demolished to make way for Loblaws but then the whole site was left vacant for several years.

It seems the new plan is very underwhelming.

Looks decent. Again though, very low density for an area that will be served by rapid transit in 10 odd years.

There's dirt being moved about at the site of the proposed apartment building on St Laurent Blvd, just south of Cote. Anybody know if this project is getting under way?

Looks like the new Starbucks at 1910 Bank St (next to Swiss Chalet near Bank/Walkley) is finally starting construction and there's fencing around the site.

That seems like an odd location but that’s probably just because I associate Starbucks with foot traffic whereas this is going to be geared towards vehicles?

Starbucks is everywhere these days... including car-centric places like Innes, Trainyards, Kanata, etc...

The closest one is in the Chapters in Greenboro/South Keys, so this one will be a welcomed addition

Well, the City got them to have an agreement with the Anand Private development to connect a pathway from Bank/Notting Hill to the new Walkley Station... so there will be some foot traffic. The pathway will be between the Swiss Chalet and new Starbucks - through the middle of their parking lot with some additional landscaping and pavement markings in the parking lot to protect/highlight the pathway.

Landscape Plan:

What are they doing at the vacant lot between the Orleans Park-and-Ride and Jeanne d'Arc? They seem to be building a north-south road through it. I wasn't able to find anything on the development apps.

700 Cope Dr | 18m | 4f | Proposed

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is proposing to construct a new four-storey secondary school at 700 Cope Drive in Stittsville. It will be approximately 8,415 square metres in size, and will include 64 classrooms, an outdoor track, two football/soccer fields, a surface parking lot and a bus loop within the site.

There will also be a new pedestrian crossing built at Bank & Notting Hill when Bank is rebuilt in a few years, along with cycle tracks. This section of Bank will become much more urban in a few years.
