I'm sorry to say but the plans for the Bradburn Building and the empty lot into a parkade have.....gone down the tubes.

Strange. You would think they would have had a plan in place before vacating the Boyd building of paying tenants.

But wait, the plan was to turn the Bradburn into a parkade? Because if so that's not much of a loss. Or was it just the part between the Bradburn and the Boyd that was slated to become parking?

^^^ I'd be happy if they spent more than a dime on the buildings that are there already, built a couple CRU's in the parking lot and opened the spaces up to small-scale businesses that can afford the rent of smaller, older building stock and bring some action back to that block.

the somewhat successful revival of Graham Ave. shows there is interest/demand in the area for this kind of small, organic revitlaization. the right businesses can thrive on portage.. just look at the success of the vietnamese place in the currie building! mmmmmmm

I think the opportunities on Portage should be left to the big things that will appear in the long run

Biff mentioned some significant projects in the works for Winnipeg last year, but he couldn't elaborate. No updates yet? Maybe I missed it?

big things on portage have never really had the intended success they promised. I think, like some other people have stated before on here, small infill projects that are sensitive to the street and pedestrians are where the most bang for our buck is now. as much as a 20-storey office building is nice, the occupants seem to rush from their car/bus to work, mostly eat lunch in the building, then rush back to their car/bus and outta dodge with very limited impact on the surrounding area (hello hydro building!!). a major example of a strip that was highly functional with cheap rent was the alabama block on ellice that was torn down for glass house and their monolithic parkade. as much as centrepoint is nice, the streetscape it has given us now leaves something to be desired.

I think he wasn't able to mention more beyond what he did - was sort of a "heads up guys" in that there is still some exciting stuff around the corner, some projects will be smaller but important parking lot slayers/densification projects, others will be bigger, maybe not 300 main scale but significant enough for downtown. He also mentioned things move really slowly in Winnipeg so even if he was told that these projects might be announced around this time, they may not end up happening until later this year

It was still nice to hear that development isn't taking a break after TNS 3&4, 300 main, art gallery expansion, new U of W apt tower, Richardson Innovation Centre etc..

I kind of agree to just let Portage keep on its own path right now, it's so busy that it's better suited to some of the larger restaurants and businesses that are already there.

Focus smaller-scale development/revitalization efforts on Graham (where there's currently 4 residential towers under construction), and next to Fort/Garry to connect to exchange. Just copy exactly what Minneapolis just did with Nicollett Mall, from a streetscaping standpoint.

Has anyone heard or seen the design plan for Graham yet? They're starting the sidewalk construction on the south side, along TNS, but I fear it's going to be bland and not part of some bigger, nicer plan. There's so much room to expand the corridor a bit on the east half, locate the busses closer to one side to make a woonerf/AT corridor, etc.... Have some vision for once...

Like rock climbing? Don't remember seeing that. Seems... odd, and an odd location. Is it going to be half parking??
