Wake up call.

I am calm!

A 250m tower doesn't make it a beast...you said this. I didn't.

It's becoming a beast because of the dramatic difference the downtown core has gone through in the last 5 years. And all the new product that is about to break ground in the coming months and years.

I suppose you get a bit of bragging rights having a 200 something meter tower, but do you really want to spend much time in the vicinity of them? Not really. I think cities like Edmonton and Calgary would be better off if all these new condo units came in the form of low-rise buildings. You usually get a far better variety of materials and colours. A place where people want to be, and where a diverse range of shops and services end up being.

For tower neighbourhoods, the best you could hope for is Yaletown in Vancouver, but that's probly because there are historic buildings in the mix. The worst example is CityPlace. Here's a look at Richards St in Yaletown. The street is fairly narrow, and the are lots of trees which softens things up. Still not all that great compared to other neighbourhoods.

Calgary and Montreal are proud members of the the boring Sao Paulo table top skyline club.

Edmonton joined the exciting Dubai mountain range skyline club!

The one side of this street in Calgary is not too bad. Human scale podium, with decent materials (at least no glass spandrel). The other side of the street is completely barren though. Build something quick!

The other side of the street is a historic sandstone school and a park.

Beautiful shot. The climate, flora, topography and architecture gives Victoria somewhat of a southern Australian feel to me.

I like to think more southern New Zealand mixed with northern California.

Victoria's skyline is really hard to shoot - you pretty much need a drone to get a good one or take one from a harbour air/helijet flight. The trouble is it isn't flat and some of the tallest buildings are in a valley. The downtown built-up area is quite large for a city of its size.

I honestly thought I was looking at a strange angle of Halifax for a second.

^ My first thought was Saint John. I don't recognize Victoria from that angle.

I love those Calgary airport shots... the blown-up telephoto view of the skyline reminds me of the Edmonton City Centre airport and the towers looming in the distance just beyond the runway there

If we're having a "for its metro size" discussion Calgary beats everything in the country and ranks well in North America.
I can confirm these numbers;

Calgary: 73 over 100 meters complete | 4 buildings about 200 meters complete (all above 210 even) | 10 buidings UC over 100 meters including 1 building over 200 meters (222)

Total highrise count (built and UC) - 376

Montreal: 60 over 100 m complete | 2 buildings over 200 meters compete (all under 210 including those UC) | 10 buildings UC over 100 meters including 2 exactly at 200 meters

Total highrise count: an impressive 749

However the discussion G.S. started is about skylines... and not even having twice the number of highrises as us when y'all are 3 x the population pretty much nullifies G.S.'s argument.
