tbh, I can't tell if the water is actual leaks, or just frozen condensation near the end of the tunnel. Either way, at the height of the spring melt, I've seen more water in a leaky basement than in this tunnel. Big meh.

Hope he's charged with trespassing. And I hope nothing happens to the poor security guard because of this douche.

What a dumbass. That was an underwhelming amount of water and ice. Would have made him quite famous had he been hit by a testing LRT vehicle while trespassing, though I'm glad he wasn't.

I watched a minute and a half, and got p-o'd
With sound, it's even worse.....trying to make an ocean out of a spitgob. He wants to see water ?.... go see Montreal Metro Beaudry, St.Laurent, Yellow line tunnel, et al.
This is a no big, at a point when it was still under construction and installation. Even the legit press coverage at the time overblew it somewhat.
The permanent pumps were nowhere near running yet, and RTG got caught in a one-in-ten years rainfall.
No big on construction sites - the construction pumps just were not capable of keeping up. No Fault.

Yes, the ice is from a small leak..... looks worse than it is, and it's again no big. And the electrical is isolated - in conduit. That's why they run electrical in conduit. Duh!

As for RTG and the guard - RTG has consistently shortchanged on security. They need an audit and investigation, and a penalty.
The guard did abrogate his duty - a reprimand and reduction in rank, given that the A-H probably passed himself off as an investigator or press.

As for the nameless A-H (I believe in not giving these A-H the honour of name recognition)
- full prosecution to the fullest extent of the law - throw the book at him, including jail time.
This is not legit reporting nor whistleblowing.

The Dow's Lake tunnel generally has an impressive amount of ice on the walls during the winter... not that it's an issue. Trains run regularly despite it. Maybe they knock some of the ice off during overnight maintenance idk, but it doesn't affect regular operations.

The Dow's Lake tunnel is obviously a few decades older than our brand new tunnel, and I guess it's possible RTG messed up the waterproofing as has been reported, but like I'm sure you all know water leaking into a tunnel isn't a big deal.

As long as its properly pumped when necessary, it'll just be a long term maintenance problem, not a daily operations one.

WHAT A TOOL! Once he gets above ground and snoops around and sees the construction site he says it's for a station! What he's really looking at is the CSST (east-west tunnel exit shaft, diversion chamber and odour control facility) north of the LRT tunnel. Hope people at the City / RTG have seen this and take action.

And it's not the first time I hear of trespassing in the tunnel either !!! I've seen photos of urban explorers (urbex) on instagram near the uOttawa and Lebreton portal... RTG really needs to step-up their security game asap!

• Hurdman,

(Plus Tunney’s Pasture and Blair listed above)

That only leaves Cyrville, which will only be used by those who’s origin/destination is within walking distance (it has no bus service) and doesn’t see a lot of foot traffic otherwise, so washrooms can be used there.

So of the 13 stations:

• 4 will have washrooms inside the fair-paid zone,
• Between 7-10 will have washrooms nearby,
• Only between 1-4 will have neither.

I think this issue is more a case of people looking for a problem because they want there to be one.

Just thinking, do you guys think that one day (in the far future 2040/2050) the current line could be upgraded to a full heavy metro system with train like Alstom Metropolis ? Or it will only be limited to low floor LRT/Tram like trains ?

I doubt it. The line has some fairly tight curves in a few places, and the platforms are barely a foot above the tracks. "Upgrading" to a more heavy rail system would require a fairly lengthy rebuild, either to raise the platforms, or lower the tracks a few feet. Not to mention the curvature of several spots along the line that would potentially be too tight or problematic.

I think the system such as it is is here to stay for the long term. A change like you suggest would require work that would feel like starting over again.

Public washrooms at Lees are pretty far if you really need to go, at uOttawa it might be hard to make a decision if it's urgent (which building would be best) and Rideau is very deep. Cyrville of course has nothing at all, but no one will actually get on or off there unless they live or work nearby, or visiting someone. All in all, public washrooms are readily available at the majority of stations in the day time, which is better than most other systems. If someone really needs to go, they could wait to get off at the next familiar stop instead of wandering around searching for facility.

I don't see that ever happening. It would be much too expensive and disruptive. The current system as is, with full length trains (two 58 meter cars and four driver cabs) can achieve 24,000 phpd. With platform screen doors and new technology, we could probably run continuous 120 meter trains (one train, not two coupled) with no driver cabs and minute and a half frequencies, which could bring the capacity to well above 30,000 phpd.

In terms of infrastructure, they will lengthen the outdoor platforms to 100-120 meters, add entrances to the downtown stations and I could envision platform widening downtown over the next 50 years.
