Indeed.

I didn't include the Hilton Garden Inn because construction is truly imminent (V Hotel to be demolished next month), but I wouldn't be surprised if this was on the list of projects taking advantage of development incentives.

I will revise my list:

Certain/almost certain:

The Aquilini Block remains an unknown. They own the whole block where the Crowne Plaza Hotel sits on, and this has to be one of the most prime development opportunities in the entire downtown core given it's proximity to the Avenir Centre. There has however never been any mention of any development on this block since it's consolidation, and this has been the case for at least the last 5-6 years.

As for the "Harper Building" also mentioned above by Budyser, I think this falls within the realm of "urban legend"............

From Acadie Nouvelle:

The historic Higgins Building, built in 1901 and adjacent to city hall, was also recently purchased. It should be renovated to meet today's standards.

Not sure if this should be on this thread but does anyone know if centennial Beach still on track to open for the 2019 summer season? I've heard nothing on progress and they usually open late may into early June.

Manuka restaurant will be closing & for sale in Mid July.

Looks like they intend to move out to the country and open some type of Bed & Breakfast/restaurant in the next few years.

These tidbits are interesting:

Cross referencing with the T&T article about this issue, it sounds like the city and Slate may look at redeveloping the parking lot in behind the Marriott (and across Mechanic Street from the Blue Cross Centre) to include a multilevel parking structure as part of the design. By building the parking lot on the old Co-op property, this buys them time to do the design and planning work on the Mechanic Street lot, and allows for alternate parking when construction occurs.

Also, the T&T article states that the city plans to add two levels and 150 parking spaces to the existing parking garage at Church & Alma by 2023. I have not heard this before..........

There was some more info about this project in the paper today. The proposal for the parking lot on Record street was approved by PAC "with conditions". This included having a firm plan coordinated with the city to build a permanent enclosed parking structure on one of Slate's properties in the core with a start date within the next three years. In addition, Bill Budd from the city's planning department said something about long range city plans for a 728 space parking structure (with the city paying for 250 of those spaces) located in the core, possibly incorporating a relocated city market and potentially having Slate as a partner in the development.

728 parking spaces sounds like an awfully specific number and it makes you wonder if the city doesn't also have pretty specific plans for such a structure.......

The Acadie Nouvelle is reporting the potential sale of the Assomption tower in Moncton. An agreement would have been reached with the buyer who would be from Moncton, inspection is to follow and a final decision will be made after that.

According to CBC Radio News this afternoon, The booting company in Moncton finally had their day in court today and lost.



It is now illegal to boot in Moncton without being properly licensed. The company was given a $3000 fine.

I don't think they even exist any more. They didn't show up in court, their phone is disconnected, and there has been no booting activity in the city since February.........

Good riddance to this pestilence.

Here are the actual conditions placed on Slate by Moncton PAC for the proposed parking lot at 20 Record Street (the old Co-op location).

1. That notwithstanding the Zoning By-law’s Table 16.1 Downtown Zones Use Table, a non-building associated surface parking lot will be permitted as a main use of land at 20 Record Street subject to a maximum timeline of 5 years ending on June 30, 2024 with potential for a limited renewal period at Council discretion under the following conditions: a) Slate can demonstrate that it is moving forward with new building plans and/or public/private parking garage on its land holdings adjacent to its Blue Cross Building as part of an expansion of its Blue Cross Campus, and/or at their 20 Record Street property by June 30, 2022;

2. At the end of 2 years (June 30, 2021), Slate can demonstrate that it has worked in partnership with City of Moncton and its tenants on alternative parking and transportation solutions that reduce commuter parking demands in the downtown through, but not limited to active transportation, employee transit programs, ridesharing / carpooling, destination park and ride shuttle / and or other enhanced transit options.

3. That by June 30, 2022 if conditions 1(a) or (2) above have not been met, the City of Moncton reserves the right to rescind the subject by-law amendment approval to provide parking as a main use at 20 Record Street. If this occurs the City shall provide written notice to Slate that the subject use is no longer approved and the use of the subject lot for parking is to halt within 6 months of the date of the written notice;

4. That the recommendations of the Trip Generation and Queuing Traffic Impact Report on the parking lot be implemented;

5. That the parking lot and landscaping be completed by September 30, 2019;

6. That the parking lot at 20 Record Street be made available as a Public Parking during evenings and weekends as either paid or un-paid parking at owner’s discretion; and

7. That the development be carried out in substantial conformance with the plans and drawings submitted as Schedule B.
