Marble or travertine, or maybe some kind of composite. Real marble in that quantity would be very expensive.

Judging by the Styrofoam around each piece it's probably marble. Expensive yes, but judging by the house getting built, I'd say dude can afford it.

I wonder where they plan to use the marble blocks? They’re small pieces, maybe the front of the house?

From the renderings DizzyEdge found and posted earlier in this thread; they could be cladding for the large chimney type structures, or even just for the foundation of the fencing that surrounds the house.

Yup! High quality materials just drew me even more to this one.

That being said, my understanding of marble is that it is porous and does not fair well in freeze/thaw cycles over multiple years. Many choose high quality like-coloured granite, if they are considering long-term durability for buildings. In this case, at least they are going with rather thick marble, which does help. Replacing the marble on first Canadian place was a difficult and expensive job.

Marble isn't great for freeze thaw climates, but given the small size of blocks it's probably okay.

I doubt the stairs are permanent. They would block the entrance for the cars. They are for construction, my guess, but maybe there will be thinner permanent stairs later on, or maybe a set of those pull down attic stairs.

It's more likely imitation marble. That amount of real marble would have crushed those wooden pellets. There are various composites that look just like marble, and are much cheaper.

Good point, I forgot about weight factor. Whatever it is, it’s going to look good when it’s finished.

I'm liking that more and more of our projects have "some" aspects of minimalism integrated. I'm not saying that this is minimalist overall - far from it (and certainly not the brick), but there are some design cues that change up the visual scale of the building.
