Theres actually a big parking crunch downtown as City surface lots are scooped up and not replaced. Some long waiting lists both public and private lots.

I've heard that an issue with getting the Right House leased is there is a lack of available parking in the area(yes even with the massive surface lots on John and Wilson).

Need to see some partnerships like Toronto where Green P leases space from private towers. Issue is the cost per parking spot is much higher for garages versus surface lots.

Maybe if we get more people living in the core those areas can be leased to people who actually live downtown to negate the need for parking spaces? I mean if you look at europe they have condensed downtowns full of old buildings with no parking, but since everyone lives down there everyone just walks.

Back in the day people parked in front of the buildings on an angle, so there was plenty of parking everywhere.. that is until they widened the roads.

no great downtown has gobs of car parking.
Having said that, Hamilton has 3 major sized parking garages coming downtown over the next couple years:

- Vrancor George St
- McMaster student tower King/Bay
- Vrancor Main/Walnut

I park under Jackson Square regularly. Only during massive concerts is it full the odd time. Even then, hardly ever. There's always spots.

Waiting lists for long-term users maybe?

I have NEVER had a problem finding parking for discretional trips downtown in Hamilton. I'm not often going there during working hours, but even then I'd be confident about finding something within walking distance.

Seems to me Fengate is just being a dick about a rival developer's plans.

Yes, talking about long term users.

Nothing that market based prices for parking couldn't solve. It might even make people, gasp, take transit downtown instead of driving.

I'd argue Austin TX has plenty, but there's no Canadian example. I find the parking argument raised by Fengate to be hog-wash, even with redevelopment of some lots I find there to be a pretty sizable amount of parking in downtown (keep in my I only stopped by once in the last year).

Another article from the Spec on the developer

James Street Baptist condo project going ahead with Vietnamese developer who has fondness for Hamilton

https://www.thespec.com/news-story/92396...developer-who-has-fondness-for-hamilton/

The developer seems like a likeable guy and his company has significantly deep pockets. Exciting to hear they are eyeing a couple other projects in Hamilton.

That quote has me very excited to see what he has planned for a lighting feature!!! Hamilton seriously needs a dose of some cool lighting in it's skyline!

I couldn't agree more - we also used to joke that you knew the success of a city by how many asians were there - and to have an asian backed architecture company, you are pretty much guaranteed business and quality - here's to hoping it isn't too plain looking and it blends well with the old - the proposed render I had originally seen I wasn't too sold on, but we will see.

New article - would be nice if this could get a new name (and put the Connolly to rest)

the name connolly was meant to honour the original architect of the church - hopefully that remains.

True but Stanton dragged it through the mud and left it in ditch. maybe a call out to the church name ..... then put an honorary plaque on it for Connolly

People in future generations won't remember what stanton did - but they will remember the name and its honouring of the church, so I hope it remains.

Agreed and I'm pretty sure the name has already been changed!
