I honestly think that those towers look decent. The coloured crowns on the top are certainly unique and will make them stand out, similarly to E Condos. I'm getting a design vibe similar to YUL in Montreal and 1070 Barclay in Vancouver.

I just hope condos aren't the only thing planned in this area. I'd like to see some real office construction here given that Mississauga's incentive plan for downtown office development is now in effect.

There just isn't demand for suburban markets, Mississauga is going to have a real tough time for the next few years.

The city centre office submarket has been underperforming for as long as I can remember. It has absolutely none of the advantages for companies that have chose suburbia over Toronto.

It does look like things are changing on the surface. A couple large scale office towers have been built in the future Vaughan City Centre and Markham Centre. Of course, these are future ctiy centres over a well established one. At least there appears to be an increased desire to be in a city centre over an auto centric office park.

YUL has shiny curtainwall you can get lost in. This one won't. IBI (Page + Steele) and Camrost.

Wasn't a fan of the old iteration and this is even worse, the corners look like balconies...

More hope that Quadreal is too late to the game and this thing won't get the momentum it needs.

Edit: Is that all of 18 Wellington that is being kept or just the Wellington-facing facade? That is intriguing, although that frontage is currently just parking ramps.

So just the facade for the parking garage and the North side? Yep that's a thumbs down for me.

The spire makes this look very Australian, which is not a good thing imo.

It's interesting how easily a bit of superficially angled glass can pass for architectural "interest".

it was never cutting edge to begin with, but it certainly beat the new look. Another incredibly boring vertical rectangle

It's been value engineered yet the introduction of right angles doesn't lessen the design for me. It's still the same level of mediocrity. It looks like the horrible addition over the Hotel Victoria has been removed which is a massive improvement. However, the Commerce Court East facsimile is embarrassing.

The previous iteration was also a vertical rectangle, but with glass angled to expose some of the corners. It's a superficial gesture - much like the wavy balcony/angled trend, it's more of a cheap, two-dimensional reference to better buildings than it is an actual architectural statement. It provides a vague allusion to a sense of movement and three dimensional form to the building without having to actually do anything that would make it more more structurally complex.

The new design is bland and forgettable, but the old one was just awkward.

That's the first thing I thought as well. I was sort of confused looking at it as I thought it was to be an office tower and then thought maybe I was wrong and it was condo.

it's that awkwardness though that made me sorta like the tower to begin with. Now it's just a forgettable looking building in a sea of highrises.

Maybe if the render was not between day and night we would have a better idea of the appearance of the corners. I suspect the lighting makes them look like balconies more than anything else. Then again, without the light, the whole building probably look even more like a plain glass box.

There are a number of examples out there with clear glass corners. It should be fine. It 's very simple and lacking depth. It doesn't come close to replacing the lost modernism which is very unfortunate.
