I replied to Shawn Menard explaining some of the many advantages of implementing this relatively low-cost change, including:
- The ability to decrease headways from 12 minutes to 10 minutes, and therefore improve user experience by decreasing average waiting time from 6 minutes to 5 minutes
- Possible increase in overall Trillium Line travel speed (as trains will not have to proceed slowly from Walkley Station to the Brookfield Siding switch
- Possible increase in ridership due to improved user experience as noted in the above two points
- An improved Walkley Station, with option for an enlarged Station plaza off Walkley Road (a twin to Gladstone Station)
- Increased operational flexibility
- Future proofing the Trillium Line past 2038
- Cost savings, as replacing the overpass will be more expensive if it has to be done in 2038 during Trillium Line operation "with minimal operational impact (weekend and overnight work, for example)"
I hope others alert their Councillors to this low-cost improvement opportunity.
