Two Antonovs currently parked at the airport. Can't remember ever seeing two at once, though may have happened at some point.

'too' many? as in there are too many variables for you to be able to make a reasoned opinion, therefore you decide which variables to disregard as they don't suit you/don't feel right to you? Or did you mean 'many' variables without the 'too'? I will definately agree there are many variables. The more the variables, the more appropriate I feel it is to discuss! ^^

YYC's published stats here....

https://www.yyc.com/en-us/media/factsfigures/passengerstatistics.aspx

The additional sun flying wasn't enough to cover the cuts to LHR and NRT in December intl numbers.

Total international in 2018 passed the 5 million mark to just over 5.1 million representing 29.4% of total pax.

That’s close to Seattle’s total. Seattle had 5.4 million intl pax in 2018.

Not bad YYC!

Total international in 2019 should perform well starting in the spring.

Speaking of spring!! I’ll bet you are all looking forward to that... quite the cold spell coming!

According to Statscan figures, for the first 11 months of 2018, YYC has 1,400 more aircraft movements than YUL.

If this holds out, YYC should regain 3rd spot for busiest airport by movements for 2018.

Well played Calgary....well played....Damn Pacific Coastal.......

Won't cause a stir if no one posts about it there.

I wonder if there is some detailed statistical comparison out there that shows the yearly breakdown of passenger traffic per sectors for airports across North America. It would be really interesting to see how well YYC Really stacks up when it comes to pulling its international weight. Maybe wikipedia will have the answers I guess.
That seattle comparison is truly impressive to say the least! Even if most of that int'l were sun travel, I guess it shows that despite the recession many Calgarians are still wealthy enough (per capita) to afford a vacation. And that has been rather strong for a few years.
If the metrics for this somehow were able to determine int'l travellers via other Canadian or US connections, how many millions more would that equate?

Though I am also impressed that SEA is STILL busier than YYZ, they must have an insane amount of movements spread over those 3 rwys & that tight complex of a terminal.

SEA is? I didn't see any stats for 2018 yet. Though YYZ has always been busier except 2015 and 2016.

I'll see if I can find the link but once again posters are basing YYC's performance on O&D.... it's not just Calgarians traveling it's the fact that YYC is a hub meaning lots of people go through it but aren't originating there or trying to go there. I think Sartor said YYC now has the highest amount of connecting traffic as a percentage of itineraries (non O&D) of any airport in Canada.

YYC is overwhelmingly domestic (70% domestic, 20% US/transborder, 10% other intl). Montreal for example has 2 million more passengers a year but is 70% international (including US). This can be partially attributed to AC's massive expansion in all hubs except YYC, but also the large number of foreign carriers operating out of Canada's 3 largest metros. YYC has been struggling maintaining existing international service.... WS will be the only airline to really invest although trans-border is doing well.

NRT (AC) and LHR (BA) went seasonal, PEK will be lost this year sometime. NRT may also be lost once the 763s are gone unless AC is going to spare a 788/789 for it. LHR, FRA are fine from AC (FRA upgauged this summer) and are daily year round. AMS is switching to daily 789 (was 333). We have seasonal foreign carriers to ZRH and FRA and I'm guessing WS 1 to LGW will remain year round on a 789 (though unlikely daily). I can't see any more Asia/Oceania until WS is ready (my guess ICN to JV with Korean). They may try NRT/HND if AC withdraws - HND reportedly getting new slots in 2020.

YYC is 63 % O&D, 37% connecting.
YYZ is 71/29
YUL is 80/20

Detailed SEA stats here.... 49.8 million in 2018. Very domestic oriented numbers.
SEA is approx 89% domestic, YYC around 71%, YVR about 48% and YEG about 83%.

With Westjet's continue push at growing YYC it will actually make it tougher for other overseas airlines to grow or commence new services. The O&D market is still relatively small but certainly large for its metro population base.

KLM has actually reverted back to the 333 which is a wash for capacity but a small reduction in premium and service (not lie flat J).
AC has been adjusting FRA between a 789 and a 77L off and on so not an upgauge. And not very long ago LHR was a 77W.
DE and WK are targeting the European leisure traveller from FRA and ZRH so that's a good inbound market.
It's unusual for BA to have seasonal routes so YYC is fortunate that they are maintaining seasonal summer service.
The big mysteries are when is Hainan leaving and will NRT continue year-round, seasonal or get cut completely.

So yes, look forward to Westjet growing YYC international.

All of KLM’s 333s now have new lie flat seats. I think they go to 789 in summer but will keep 789 thereafter.

I figure 77L slight upgauge due to 10 more business seats on that frame = expected more premium traffic.

Was the 77W to LHR back in 2013?

Wonder if BA is holding for the short term and expects to go back to year round.

I’d expect PEK to go after peak summer season but the diplomatic row we are having isn’t going to help increase Chinese inbound ....

There was a Sun Country 737 at YYC today and I've seen them here before. Do they operate seasonal ski charters in the winter?

-KLM is daily 333 this summer, and is currently showing as a daily 789 next winter, although the winter schedule is probably far from finalized.
-AC had a 77W on LHR as recently as 2017. In fact, AC has the 77W scheduled on a few flights this month.
-I've heard BA is planning on staying seasonal. Not sure if its true or not?
-As for HU, nothing firm yet. Still trying to hold on to the route as long as they can maybe?
-DE is planning on increasing FRA to 4x Weekly this summer as well.
-I suspect NRT will at least stick around S20, considering the 2020 Olympics.

According to KLM the 333s are "angle" lie flat not the new lie flat bed. Definitely showing daily 333 this summer.

AC has been flying the 77Ls to FRA in the summer for a few years now.

AC as recently as 2015 was flying 11 weekly to LHR too.

Still not sur what's going on with HU either.

The mystery continues with HU, AC to NRT and BA to LHR.
