The last few weeks, I've seen people using the Queen St. entrance of World Exchange as a makeshift bus shelter for the stop half a block away at the corner of Metcalfe, where's there's no shelter at all. I'd guess it's also better than waiting in the miserable little bus hut at the eastbound bus stop at Parliament Station, though it won't help you if your bus is one of those that ends up meandering between Queen and Slater via O'Connor.

The whole configuration of downtown bus routes, bus stops, and bus shelters, is a garbage fire. The actual passenger is no longer an afterthought, we are after-afterthoughts.

This week's construction update:

January 31, 2019
Construction Update

Finishing works at all O-Train Confederation Line stations continue with testing and commissioning of trains and systems ongoing.



West Stations

Stations along the western alignment, including Tunney’s Pasture, Bayview and Pimisi undergo final touch-ups including installation of siding, exterior lighting, painting, millwork, and stainless steel cladding. Installation of access doors in the composite metal soffit panels at Bayview Station is ongoing.



Central Stations

Lyon Station
Finishing works including installation of lighting and tiling.

Parliament Station
Installation of ceiling structural elements on the concourse level continues. Final touch-ups including painting, and the installation of lighting and cladding are underway.



Rideau Station
Signage, lighting and ceiling installation continues along with painting, tiling and caulking within the station. Crews work toward elevator certification.

uOttawa Station
Crews are doing final paint touch-ups, and installing cladding and lighting.



East Stations

Stations along the eastern alignment, including Lees, Hurdman, Tremblay, St-Laurent, Cyrville and Blair Station, are continuing to undergo final touch-ups including tiling, painting, site cleaning, and installations of tactile warning strip indicators for persons with visual impairment and drain installations.



Guideway and Testing

Testing and commissioning is ongoing; both single and coupled trains continue to be tested end-to-end on the alignment. Station systems testing is ongoing at all 13 stations. Software testing for entire system is ongoing while training of Electric Rail Operators (EROs) continues.



Upcoming Construction Activities

In the coming weeks, the following construction activities are scheduled to occur:

• Installation of public art at Tremblay Station
• Interior touch-ups at the stations
• Testing and commissioning of systems
• Ongoing vehicle testing
• Elevator and escalator certifications

I think they might be similar to those that are along the Nicholas St. side of uOttawa Station.

I sort of wondered whether they could have done a bus loop at Pimisi with a fare-paid zone in the lower level. There's already seems to be an entrance at the bottom of the south side. This loop could also be a logical point for STO buses to turn around, or allow OC buses travelling on Albert to service the station while skipping the Booth intersection.

So, drivers are named after the Greek god Eros. That is quite the job description and an incentive for recruiting.

As for in the tunnel, they might not even need to heat the switches in it, though they may have heaters to be safe. The tunnel will be warmer and it is sheltered so it won't get nearly as much ice build up. As for fumes, there are very few switches, and when combined with lower deicing needs, the fumes would be minimal and should be easily handled by the TVS.

The Trillium Line uses both Propane and Natural Gas switch heaters, I believe all of them are Natural Gas except the switch to the North Connecting Tract at Walkley, adjacent to Home Depot. There's a propane tank at that location, with access off the Transitway.

Your idea wouldn't work there since that area is way to busy at rushour to add 2 more intersections that would need lights for it to work.

Don't know if this has been posted here before but Google Earth now has satellite imagery that includes the Confederation Line. It shows all above ground sections of track completed, and even has the odd LRT running on it if you follow the line its full length. The imagery is very high quality too. Its worth a look!

Google maps still seems to be using older satellite imagery and when I click on that link I still see the transitway. Maybe I should install Google Earth.

If you open up the side menu and click on "Globe" it'll disable the 3D imagery view that uses imagery from around 2013(?).
