You mean like Southdale west of Wonderland which they have torn up portions of a number of times over the past few years between Col Talbot yet still left it 2 lanes for some strange reason.

Yep that is London alright

New floodplain mapping in southwest London may impact development in a big way. Would be great if the article included a map.

While getting the tires changed Saturday, I was browsing through the Business London magazine, and specifically the listing of new construction as well as land deals. Noticed that Tricar recently bought a piece of land on Westdel Bourne for a million and a half dollars or so. I thought it might have been right near the West 5 area and then I looked it up on my phone and the map shows it to be well south of Southdale on the west side of the road. Surely this can't be buying land on spec for a future development all the way down there, well away from anything else, could it? Wonder what they are up to?

Just a guess, but their headquarters and storage property is at 3800 Colonel Talbot Road. Perhaps they plan on moving it over to Westdel Bourne. The location on Colonel Talbot is surrounded by residential planning applications, except their property doesn't have any active plans to my knowledge. Should be interesting, but still just guessing.

The company I work for services most of Tricars buildings, and I don't think they have plans on moving. I was there recently dropping off something and the office is pretty new looking, like they reno'ed it. Probably using that property for more condos or something.

Secondary plan to be discussed later this month. The future of build up not out policy and increased density downtown at stake. Let's see if this council has a spine. https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/neighbours-fear-development-could-create-victoria-park-fishbowl

I am surprised that the tallest zoning around vic park is 90m.

Are there any height restrictions there beyond NIMBY-ism?

They should ring the park with *tastefully* designed 300 - 400 footers. Maybe some Art Deco, Edwardian, and modern themes. London has a chance to make that like a mini Central Park which would be an appealing feature (New York City is actually a popular place with new grads and has no problem "attracting and retaining talent").

Unfortunately, I'm starting to think that, in London Ontario, the word "Heritage" is actually code for "we only like Victorian architecture". And a lot of those who have that mindset are very comfortable and do not want any changes or growth. Or shadows.

based on this LFP article the tower at Springbank and Wonderland is likely to start this year. Over a $1B worth of construction happened in London this past year.

4 story in Byron. This is my area and I hadn't even heard of this proposal lol. Always wondered what was up with those empty lots. Glad this got turned down though, what an ugly design. As the ruling said, the developer didn't even try on this lol.

Wow. Had no idea so much new construction in London was slated for the next five years.

Yes, it will definitely change London's skyline.

I've not always lived in London. From '84 - '87 I went to Western, then moved away. I came back in 1993 and have been here ever since.

In the mid to late 1970s, I would come to London with my parents on the odd weekend to visit my uncle and aunt. Back then, the only high-rise building I ever remember seeing was what was then the Canada Trust complex of towers.

When all of the proposed construction is done, the city's skyline will be a far cry from what it used to be 40-odd years ago.

I agree with their concerns, and i feel for them. This is a good neighborhood, it should not be allowed to be turned into a student ghetto.
