yeah, there was an encampment on the roof where there used to be the car lot. the ramp up the back of the building was completely accessible so people set up a nice camp up there for most of the summer as a nice hidden spot for the most part.

Does the old McNaught property fall outside the downtown area where no new surface lots are allowed? Like would the city issue a demolition permit without a plan for the site?

A hotel with that name in India would no doubt be lavish.

I beleive that the Hotel Royal Plaza is owned by Ashwani and Saroj Nagpal who also own the India Palace Restaurant in downtown Winnipeg.

Nothing classes up a hotel like adding "royal" to the name. But I think it will take more than a million dollar facelift and a new sprinkler system to live up to that pretentious new moniker.

It's 770 Ellice at Simcoe. Free Press article I found on line about Ashwani and Saroj Nagpal said it was downtown and I didn't check the address.

I would say its more west end than downtown.

They also have a location in the 3100 block of Portage Ave

This is an excellent article. Basically, it talks about the importance of retaining young people in Winnipeg and Manitoba, and to do that, we need a bigger presence of urban lifestyle. In my opinion, we are on the right direction.

I was thinking of this place:

Used to be the Garden Creperie. Man I miss their Crepe St Jacques.

Sorry but climate trumps just about everything, being the coldest city in Canada isn't exactly a draw!
