If you've never worked on a building in BC you'd probably have never been exposed to seismic codes. I remember installing controls and even the requirements for mounting an equipment cabinet were stringent- here in Alberta you just anchor it to a wall. Can't do that in Vancouver.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of projecting boxes... it's been done to death, but that building is still a stunner

OK Here is the info from a structural guy. Apparently in the Edmonton Area the soil conditions are such that we do not need seismic restraints. However if the soil has the potential for liquefaction or the spoil is not of good quality seismic measure are to be used. There is a large storage facility in South Edmonton that has seismic restraints. The Stantec tower has footings that go 87 meters deep. the foundation is in good "substructure". What we design for most here is wind loading, it over rides seismic.

Pier 27 is taking shape. About 13 floors to go. I'm hoping the balcony glass makes up for the windowall.

It's not fair Montreal scored an brand new NFB headquarters when Toronto's just moved to an existing boring office building. I really love this building.

I like the rendering of the NFB building and the concept, but the building looks a bit lacking IMO.

One thing that strikes me about Vancouver House is that on the lower floors there will be suites with exterior walls on three sides. That's going to make for some very interesting configurations.

Shoring is underway for this little tower at 219 Dundas Street East. I like how it meets the the street. This area is gentrifying fast, I've always thought this section of Dundas would someday be nice.

Since site demo has already taken place for Duke Tower (39 storeys?), it won't be the tallest for long.

Duke Tower is 33 floors, and on higher ground than Charlie W as well...
