Whoops, tricky finger. 767-300. Nope, it wasn't ever put forward as year round... but I had hoped WS 1 would remain on the 789 year round even with reduced frequency.

I don’t think WS has finalized its winter schedule yet, so it still could be a 789. CDG/DUB will probably remain seasonal.

I can see them sending a 789 from both YYC and YYZ to LGW in W19/20.

I would be really surprised if CDG and DUB went year round. Western Canada - Europe remains hugely seasonal.

I am still wondering what WS is going to do with their 789s in the winter. Going to be interesting!

I think CDG and DUB will be seasonal for sure. I can see LGW remaining 789 and switching YYZ to 789 as more will be on the way for the S20 season. What is interesting is that Ed has said they have no intention of retiring the 763s yet. I can see the 767s doing more Europe ex-YYZ (they are perfect to compete on rouge routes). I figure the 789 is too much aircraft for YYC-Hawaii (especially given the 737MAX can do it) but on the other hand, it would be a lie flat to Hawaii and that's not common anymore... so they might try it. I suppose they could always use them for domestic service, but seems like a huge waste until they have a bigger international network.

Europe is a no-brainer for summer. Asia is tricky given the bloodbath going on over there. Sun destinations don't need widebodies given the new longer range of the MAX aircraft.

I wonder how AC shifts their widebodies in winter.

AC has far more flexibility. They fly to South America, Asia, Europe, India and Australia. They can mix up the widebodies a bit between those routes. There are also a number of North American widebody routes. YVR-Toronto/Montreal/Newark. YYZ-LA/Vancouver/Calgary etc.

They also have rouge. In summer it flies to secondary tourist oriented destination and in the winter it is down to Mexico.

I think WestJet has lots of options in the winter. They could send them to sun destinations. If it is to much aircraft run them on YVR-YYZ and then use the 737 that are displaced for sun destinations.

Air Transat uses A330's to fly to Mexico, maybe Westjet will look at doing something similar?

Who is there right mind is going to pay full J on WestJet to go to Mexico.

Hence why Rouge was created.

Nobody gets 2x4x2 an 30inch pitch in a 333 like AT.

I think your looking at it from the wrong perspective. It is not who will pay full J. It is what route will make the most money flying a 787 for WestJet. Sending it to Mexico with a full aircraft and economy passengers paying decent prices is still better than a half empty flight to London.

I suspect they will try to make Paris year round even if it is only a few days per year. With onward connections on Air France it is probably easier to fill than London in the winter.

Looks like AC is cutting YYC-PDX to one daily only next summer. Afternoon service looks like the one being cut.

Source was the OAG weekly update on airliners.net.

AC transborder ops at YYC being chipped away bit by bit (will be down to 11 daily - 3 mainline, 1 rouge and 7 Express) while WS just keeps going full throttle....

Speaking of which, AC will cut YYC-YYJ to 3x daily instead of 4x next summer.

AC 8557/8558 is removed.

I can see CDG being year-round if they can do a JV with Air France, with KLM keeping AMS.

LGW they have run in the winter profitably a few years already so I don't see that changing.

One of the main reasons to have TB ops to get Americans on the wide bodies... but they have so many more widebodies at their main hubs... so I guess not surprising.

DL to MSP next summer will be an all 717 operation from YYC.

A classic look airliner still going strong.

Frequency boosted to 3 daily so overall still a capacity increase although now on smaller aircraft

I took this flight in May. First time on a 717 and I quite liked it. It's a bit bigger than a CRJ, which makes it more comfortable for a tall guy like me.

You sure? I see 717 service in May but it upgauges to 319s in peak summer. 3x daily.

Interestingly, this frequency remains until November at least. Not sure if just Delta hasn't updated or if this is when the JV is anticipated to be approved and MSP connections open up via WestJet.

Considering they are training new crew on the 767 to replace the ones they will lose to the 787 I think it's safe to say they are sticking around for the time being.

Yeah. Checked OAG this morning and that was a change I noticed.
DL still showing 319s though.
Let’s go with 319s!

Perhaps.

YYC will be one of only three Canadian airports to have mainline service from the 3 major US carriers next summer. YYZ and YVR being the other two.

Speaking of Transborder... with the lastest changes.... as it stands right now YYC will have approx 53-54 daily Transborder flights next summer.

Breakdown by carrier:

WS 16
UA 12
AC 11
DL 8
AA 4
AS 3
F9 3 x wk
