That said, why is the density so low on the north side of the river? Those people enjoy some of the best commutes and views in Canada. You basically walk over a pedestrian bridge and through a well-manicured park for ten minutes to get to your job.

I know it's a rich neighbourhood, and the NIMBYism is probably fierce, but the ROI might be high enough for a more daring developer to try to upzone and open the floodgates.

I stayed with friends in Kensington earlier this year and surprisingly it's not a very expensive part of town to rent in (maybe ownership is expensive?)

I'd definitely be looking for a place there if I landed a job in downtown Calgary.

There's also a defunct but scenic canal that runs through Dartmouth connecting many of these lakes. Ocean beaches are better and closer. From an urbanist perspective though it's the side of the harbour with "less stuff" overall.
Dartmouth's history is pretty similar to New Westminster. Both were older separate towns that became industrial areas and then transitioned into commuter suburbs in recent decades.

The industrial history and canal in Dartmouth are pretty interesting assets the area could capitalize on more. I haven't seen the canal daylighting stuff but that whole area used to feel very disconnected with the rail line, 70's parkway-like Alderney Drive, and then various parking lots and bad 90's type developments. I guess in the 70's the idea was to separate the old industrial parts from the more residential and commercial parts.

Great Calgary shots! I'd love to visit the downtown core and walk along the Bow river....it looks like such a peaceful and enjoyable walk on either side.

It's incredible how some parts of Montreal look so different now in just a few years, as shown in one of the above photographs.

Midtown Skyline

I took this two days ago, of Yonge and Eglinton's growing skyline, from Sunnybrook Park, which is over 4 km away. The new peak in our skyline is E Condos, sitting at a dominating 194 metres tall. The left part of the skyline is towards the south, whilst the right side are buildings to the north.
