I really need to get to Halifax. What town or part of town is that at the bottom of the picture? It looks like it has some interesting old east coast architecture.

I went to Halifax for the first time this past summer and really enjoyed it! Very walkable, great architecture, friendly people and plenty of good bars and restaurants. You can tell it's a smaller city but has a presence much larger than its size would suggest.

That's downtown Dartmouth at the bottom of the picture. The ferry out there has incredible views of downtown and despite the reputation of being boring (as relayed by Halifax friends) went to a nice new brewery and interesting beer bar before heading back.

One city I've never been to in Canada. It sounds great. Will have to put Halifax on my travel list. Maybe when they get a CFL team go check out the Expros/Eskimos and Storm/Schooners.

Awesome! I hope it's clad in glass, it will stand out so much from the rest of the skyline if it is.

Well I for one would like to welcome Hamilton's skyline to the 21st century! Hope there are many more to follow!

If there is one city that could use a dose of glass it's the Hammer.

It amazes me that people on here want us to wall that river and develop right up to it...

That doesn't make any sense with a river that size. Only larger more powerful rivers need to be managed like that in urban settings.

The Bow is about the same size as the Chicago River I believe, and it likely floods worse. The issue for me is it makes far more sense to allow the river to have natural banks, it also looks much nicer!

^ It's not like the Bow is used for shipping... natural banks are a no-brainer.

Dartmouth which as a separate city until around 2000 is known for having lower rents, lots of lakes, and being more suburban. Its best feature is that you can see Halifax.

Dartmouth is the more suburban side of the harbour but it has some nice features. The downtown is a bit more like a typical NS town while still feeling pretty substantial by mid-sized Canadian standards. There are a bunch of lakes with beaches and rowing/paddling is very popular. There's also a defunct but scenic canal that runs through Dartmouth connecting many of these lakes. Ocean beaches are better and closer. From an urbanist perspective though it's the side of the harbour with "less stuff" overall.
