You mean as opposed to the 3rd floor in the renderings? Or just that it looks to be a patio rather than a garden?

It looks like a patio instead of green terrace graden

I always thought it was just the office towers that were getting top floor "gardens"...was not aware a terraca garden was in the plans for the ALT...too bad if it was suppose to be there and they decided against it.

Hmmm...

I feel like the people who created the render just stuck a few tables and chairs up there for effect... Looking over the Meewasin documents and based on my observations of the actual building, it doesn't look like the top of that podium is going to be used, really. Doesn't seem to be an access door / cafe / amenity on that level that could utilize a little podium garden.

Too bad -- would have been better if they had worked in exterior steps up to the top of that podium and used it as an overlook / extension of the plaza (like the podium for Nutrien Tower) Hopefully I'm wrong!

If i was a condo owner there I wouldn't want a patio by my window unless it was just a garden or green space of some sort. definitely not table and chairs lol

I have to say, I love driving by this development every day.

My morning commute takes me up Spadina West, by the farmer's market, and I love the view of these towers taking shape. Combined with the Remai, this view (from near the new Reconciliation Artwork in Victoria Park) is shaping up to be stunning.

I keep trying to picture how our skyline will transform with the completion of this entire development, especially with the North Tower starting to take shape years before I thought it would (if ever). Downtown is going to look pretty cool in five years, especially if these new condos across the river materialize!

Things are moving well on the office portion of the development. Forming of the 7th floor of the East Tower is ongoing and many trades beyond the formwork crew are now on site.

The piling portion of the shoring for the North Tower is now complete and timber lagging is progressing well. By the end of this weekend, a large area of the parkade will be excavated down 10'-12'. Nice to not have to be ripping much frost.

Sounds like they are still pushing to get occupancy granted for the hotel by the end of this year, with a soft opening in January and full operation in February. Lots of work still to be done, but things have been moving well, so who knows? Alt Hotel signage is up, so that bodes well. Just checked their website and it states "under construction - opening 2018".

Too bad they will miss the holiday season for their opening, but as a new product on the scene I am sure they will still be busy in the new year.

As I have mentioned before on here, I have stayed at Alt in Montreal and Toronto and liked the minimalist design of rooms and the often better rates then say a Sheraton or Radisson. Not sure how they will position their rates in our market.

It looks like the East wall of the North parkade is the North parkade wall of the East tower, as it should be, so that hopefully speeds up the building process this time around, even though the newer parkade and core are bigger:>)

If that is true, then that lends itself to the parkades connecting...I believe there was speculation about that, during construction of the East Tower parkade...

The parkades for the 2 office towers will be connected. Blockout panels were cast into the west wall of the East Tower parkade. Those panels will be removed to accommodate drive aisles that will connect the 2 parkades.

The Hotel will have a temporary parkade access directly from 2nd avenue into the west face of the parkade. That will remain in place until construction of the North Tower progresses to the point that the permanent parkade access on the north side of the hotel (the white O/H door visible in the photo above) is able to be safely used. Temporary modifications to the Hotel parkade ramp were required to accommodate this logistical issue.

Looks like they removed one of the tower cranes for the east tower. The other one can do the job as the jib arms long enough but i wouldve thought the 2 cranes would complete the tower.

The east office tower has a few sheets of glass up on the main floor, facing the river. Couldn't snap a picture, but they look great! A nice, neutral blue-ish/grey tone.
I think these office buildings are going to look great.

Thanks for the update Echoes! I have been out of town for work (again) and anxious to see some updates!

The hotel looks fantastic (although I would not have designed the hotel and condo jammed together like that).

I hope to resume regular updates soon.
