I agree....would be nice to see a winter rendering....perhaps they can commission some ice/snow sculptures each year for the plaza that would be lit with LED effects?

North Office Tower: Looks like solider pile installation is almost complete and they have excavated down to almost 8ft in some places. I would expect them to start installing the first level of tiebacks soon.



East Office Tower: Rising very quickly and you can now begin to make out the slight offset for each subsequent floor plate.

At this rate it looks like 3 floors per month, so top out should be end of Feb., with good progress in the opposite direction happening on the North tower.

It's too bad there is not a significantly large enough parcel of land close by for the arena/convention centre as this really could be our "entertainment district" with existing movie theatres, live theatre, gallery and farmers market and lots of restaurants within walking distance!

I just don't see the Toys'r'us site being large enough?? But maybe...

I don't think that TCU Place "needs" replacing. I think it's more of a "want".

I believe that incorporating a convention centre helps sell this as more of a multi-purpose facility and takes the focus off of it being strictly a sports facility.

That is what I thought. Spend more money than you need to convince taxpayers to spend more money on an arena. This happens everywhere.

What about connecting an Arena to downtown casino and show lounge?

If there is any major development on conference exhibit space in Saskatoon I think the idea setup would be to have the the existing exhibition ground move from its current location to being at SaskPlace. Turn that into the exhibit complex for large scale events with the annual EX occurring at the same site. That would be idea for events where you have tractors and other oversize equipment on exhibit.

That is assuming converting the existing exhibition grounds to high density residential would generate sufficient revenue to pay for the move.

The downtown convention centre would then be focused on events with more of a people scale.

My understanding was that TCU, like SaskTel Centre, is loosing out on being able to bid on events because of its limitation in size. I believe they have mentioned they cannot even bid on many national....never mind international...conferences, because of inadequate facilities.

That is why it is a combined bid with the emphasis on shared facilities.

This is a fantastic idea and one that would be a huge step forward for our city and infill development. I see two problems, however:

1. The "go-fever" that has been discussed regarding Saskatoon's ability to make decisions on projects and accept change.

2. Our economy is just so flat right now. While it's not as bad as 2016, we are nowhere close to growing like we were in 2008-2013 and therefore I think it would be nearly impossibly to find a developer willing to take on so much risk for such as large scale development right now.
