Thanks for that info....I did not know the prices. Those seem pretty outrageous for a CHL game! What was the attendance like for the game?

And yes...you are right....now gives me pause as to how much I would spend for game, taking into account travel, hotel, food, etc.

MEC coming to Saskatchewan!

I am glad to read of this, but it does cause me some worry for the really good independent outdoor stores that already exist in Saskatoon. I hope there will still be room in the market for them. Some are pretty specialized....Ebbs (x-country skiing), Escape Sports (more alternative type sports). The one I would think that might be most affected would be Outer Limits.

I am from Regina and buy a lot of outdoors stuff. I would probably pop in if I needed something specific and happened to be in Saskatoon with time to kill. I already buy form MEC's website that often has free shipping, so it is not a big deal for me. Still, a great addition for Midtown

I would never, ever consider going to an outdoor NHL game. WTF is the point? Freeze to death, can't see the players (especially the puck) and pay outrageous prices? No thanks.

Add in the fact that I'm old enough to have played many a game on outdoor rinks or indoors in rinks that were colder than being outside. Cripes I can still feel my frozen blocks of ice feet.

But if other people want to "enjoy the nostalgia" go ahead, the NHL won't make a dime off of me.

They cancelled it and moved it into the Brandt Centre. They definitely overshot the market and people weren't willing to spend that much to freeze outside.

And yes, those ticket prices are almost in line with the Grey Cup.

From what I understand, at various times it was Western Clay or WesClay Brick, Ekaton, Kaolin Industries and Cominco fertilizer.

Here is an early picture form the 50's of workers making clay pipes when the plant was called Western Clay Products. IN the 1940's it was listed as being in Pinkie, SK

I think I may be one of those few people on here that can celebrate success for both Regina and Saskatoon...or other Sask developments. I choose to see the benefit to the province rather then competition between cities. We are a small enough province that we need to see the benefit regardless of the location.

I have been a cheer leader for Regina projects and have felt the frustration at stalled developments, as well. Just saying....

Well, I have lived in both cities and I can assure you that there are few if any Saskatoon residents who think that way. To Saskatoon, it IS a competition, one that they win more often than they lose. Someone here earlier was opining that Regina didn’t need to try to top Saskatoon for an indoor arena. This is defeatist.

Hey, if MEC wants to open stores in both cities, great, and they might be planning that anyway. But Midtown and Cornwall are in a pitched battle for provincial exclusives and I for one do not want to see Saskatoon win them all.

Years ago I moved from Saskatoon to Regina then later back to Saskatoon, and experienced the exact same thing. Noted how often and with how much zeal a lot of Saskatonians would trash talk Regina. Then in Regina realized it was much more pleasant than I was expecting and nobody even talked about Saskatoon much, if they did it was only in reference to some specific topic and rarely negative, wasn't even really on their radar. There is a one-way rivalry.

Can anyone please explain why the city ruined the decent left turn lane from northbound Lewvan into the airport? They shrunk the lane by 4-5 car lengths and I found myself sitting still in the northbound inside lane waiting to make a left turn the other night. I almost got hit by northbound vehicles that were forced to stop as there were 7-8 cars waiting to turn left and there is no longer room. I thought making traffic flow better not worse was in order for city council. Please rip up that filled in left turn lane and restore some order at that intersection. (ps, i suspect it had something to do with the now reversed plan to put a pedestrian crosswalk on the south part of the intersection, likely the contractor ran out to do the work to get paid before the city told them to stop...reminds me of the Eastgate bridge nonsense)

Sadly the lane they blocked was the good one and what is there now is a triangular skinny lane that leaves cars sticking out into traffic. I hope they undo what they did soon or someone will be killed there soon. I would show you the image from google sat view as its available there now but I cannot figure out the image upload.

The city is adding some parking meters in January near the General Hospital in places that are now posted 2 hour parking spots. More grousing and complaining on the city's crackbook page, but really pressure needs to be put on the province and the health district for a parkade. The need for parking for staff and visitors is not going away and what they are doing now is clearly not working.

Literally cannot believe that the province and city still have not built a parkade. And they are paying $700,000+ a year on the shuttle service hardly anyone uses.

It is 100% not the city's responsibility. Health care falls exclusively on the shoulders of the province.
