Anecdotally, you're one of the few people I've "met" that finds Toronto boring, bland and utilitarian which is probably why you always give the perception that you represent the majority. Context and heritage has a longer lasting impression than avante garde and/ or super tall architecture and it's unfortunate how under appreciated it is in Toronto. As bad as this one is from that perspective, Commerce Court 3 still takes the cake. It's tall with shifting glass planes and that's enough here to destroy an innovative, meticulous design from one of the modernist era's greats.

I find this development sooo ugly. To me it looks like a south american slum hill from a distance and all that concrete just looks very unappealing to me.

Also, what is with the dentist office glass cube walls? and all that foliage makes it look like ruins that are being reclaimed by nature while slums of dentist office glass cube walls and concrete are rising above it lol. I can only imagine how bleak it will look in the fall and winter when all those leaves are gone too.

What are you talking about? The new design has no exposed concrete. Its all glass cube cladding now

alright, remove my comment about the concrete. I still find it very ugly, especially with the glass cubes in all pictures I've seen on here. Just my opinion. If people like it that's cool, I just really really do not.

It is great to see the traditional malls become more integrated into the communities with more public space and less parking.

I have to confess thou that I still wouldn`t go to one. At the end of the day they are still just malls with the same stores as everyother mall on the continent with the same demographics, sterility, and suburban mentality. There is nothing `amazing` about Amazing Brentwood.............it`s a real estate venture of a bunch of condos clustered around a mall and little else. It will never have any sense of true community or vitality no matter how busy it gets.


I do appreciate that this may seem a bit cynical but communities develope over time and are nutured from the bottom up and not by developers down. It will certainly be a busier and more pleasant place but at the end of the day that doesn`t change the fact that it`s just another suburban mall.

They are still large blocks internally focused developments. The finer grained urbanism is just a guise. Pretty but, do these ubiquitous mall/ large scale developments integrate with their communities? Suburbia is a confluence of self centred developments however, a number of these are planned in urban neighbourhoods and it's clear little focus went into integrating with the surroundings.

We're going to continue to see a lot of mall redevelopments as Landlords are desperate re-position these investments before it's too late. People are watching RioCan and others get hammered by the loss of Zellers/Target and Sears over the past 5 years and don't want to be caught with their pants down. Urbanity unfortunately isn't top of mind in suburban mall conversions where transit was never necessary to sustain business in the past. I would expect more often than not they end up like the area around Square One.

There are big plans in place for Yorkdale which seem somewhat promising though.

Normally I’m not a big fan of twins but I really like this. It’s elegant and iconic. Curious how much of the golden colour is rendering magic vs. What the final product will look like though.

Where are its balconies? No large scale condo projects occur in Canada without balconies in our modern era. I think we need clear renderings of both sides.
