We can debate future technology, but even with what is available today, we stick our heads in the sand when it comes to thinking about more efficient modes of moving people around, designing streets, and parking needs. I am on my way back from the International Downtown conference in San Antonio, and we should be absolutely embarrassed with our city's approach to transportation.

Anyone else notice that they have removed the Campbell street access from the TCH? I would presume this is a safety measure and to facilitate future development? I for one am happy this was done. Quite a few close calls there lately.

Some were complaining on Reddit, but it makes sense. Someone would have died there in the next 10 years, especially with increased use from Harbour landing.

Transit hub will probably be the next major development in Downtown. I wish there was more private investment in the works, but I do not see that for a long time, especially with 2 new office buildings in Wascana.

The transit hub will happen as there is tons of Federal money available for transit.

Report on Broad Street puts onus on property owners to revitalize area

People won't build where there is no market. End of story. If the city really desires this area to improve they will have to put incentives in place to make it economically feasible to develop the area. Or, the city can wait until the rest of downtown grows out.

Probably nothing going in that area for the next thirty years.

I would hope the thought is not to build something of similar capacity to the Saskatoon arena discussion. To me, it does not make sense for our province to have 2 arenas with capacity over 15,000 each.

Our 2 cities are only 2 hours drive apart on a divided highway, so lets not saturate the market with 2 directly competing venues. Regina is definitely the place for major outdoor sporting or concert venues with the incredible Mosaic Stadium. Saskatoon can fill the role as the major indoor venue for events.

I support a renovation of Brandt or a new build in the vicinity of a 6,500 seat venue to meet the needs of the city and its tenants.

I wouldn't support something new with only 6500 capacity. Brandt Centre isn't so bad that it needs a straight across replacement.

If we're going to build new, I think it needs to be at least 10k, so it will have longer term use. And preferably if it could be expandable to 15k as well (sort of how Sask Place was built out over the years).

There is also some interesting discussion on inverted bowl arena design in the main Canadian arena/stadium thread. Something like that could be cheaper and would be smaller than the traditional arena design.

I prefer a reno. Why spend $125 million to get another small arena. Alternatively we can buy SaskTel Centre for $1 from Saskatoon, put it on a semi and install it on the Dewdney Rail Yards.

The orange was an unfortunate choice but does it really matter how the outside looks?

Yes, build a 10K arena expandable to 15K.

Let's say the doors open to a new [or refurbished] arena in 2027. It would be a hell of a lot more practical to have a new facility than to have a dressed up one which would then be already 50 years old.

Besides that, Brandt Centre is crumbling in the basement anyway.
