The people that seem the most pissed at the Nashville news are Pittsburghers. They were under the belief that if any small city got AMZN investments that it would be them... despite Austin, Nashville, and Raleigh being more appealing locations for talent and faster growing cities.

People from Philly still seem to be in disbelief that it went to DC and NYC ....

I will admit, while NYC nor DC were my top candidates (because of COL), I made it clear that Nashville was a dark horse and a former regular who's no longer here made it seem as though I was crazy for thinking so.

I think many people in the cites that issued proposals to Amazon who had a positive or neutral feelings about Amazon in the past, will harbor some negative feelings towards the company in the future.

I believe this would only be a natural culmination of emotions to those who now feel a little disenfranchised. Psychologically speaking, negative feelings will arise in the minds of those who felt somewhat betrayed through this long drawn out process.

It’s one thing to carry out this process “behind closed doors” , but to place this whole competition on public display - exhibition style – in order to pinch out every penny for oneself smacks of corporate gluttony in its highest form. It would seem counter-intuitive to drag this many of your current and future customers through a gargantuan free-for-all, knowing full well that in the end, there would be 235 losers and only one winner (now 2+).

You can be sure there will be many articles written on how this process was a success for Amazon with just as many articles written about how this process negatively impacted Amazon’s customer base.

As for myself, I have been purchasing through Amazon since the day they started and I have always had nothing but positive things to say about my experience with them, however, I no longer have those positive feelings towards the company. Did these negative feelings form in a vacuum, no, they were cultivated and nurtured by Amazon and Jeff Bezos.

Yeah, I totally agree. Don't get me wrong, I will still buy from Amazon but this whole circus has soured me on the company. I feel the same way about Amazon right now as I do about Wal-mart.

Yeah I am mad at him too and at myself for letting someone like this get my hopes up. He was the whole reason I came over to this forum in the first place. The least he could do is just admit he was wrong given how ugly he was to people who posted dissenting views.

I've expected it to go to DC since January, but I gotta admit the split with NYC and the Nashville outpost took me completely by surprise. In all the comparisons I saw, Nashville was down at the bottom in terms of tech talent.

Congrats to them. I'm still in shock that we didn't get at least something like so many other major cities have.

It’s best to take everything with a grain of salt. As nice as it would’ve been to watch the city flourish with new development, there’s no need for us to rush into things now. Here’s hoping city planning gets their zoning update for the city out the door and we start seeing improvements in quality of developments, more cohesive street grids and streetscaping, and start building more along sensible corridors.

First, let's stop being soooo down on Atlanta, which by damn near all standards is a great city and becoming better at warp speed.

Now, that was some slick shit Amazon pulled on 238 cities, not to mention how bamboozled the 17 other finalist feel now that the bride, the groom and the brides' maid have moved on, leaving the wedding party drunk, disoriented and wondering what the f' just happened.

Well to be honest, Amazon knew all along it wanted to have 2 mini headquarters and (an even smaller) Mini Me to wow the world. There never was gonna be an HQ2, which would have diminished the importance of its Seattle headquarters.

So, there were breadcrumbs indicating where they wanted to locate. New York City area had multiple cities/areas, and so did Metro D.C. We were all just too self-absorbed and full of ourselves to follow the yellow brick road, which clearly led elsewhere.

NYC (the center of the universe), and D.C. (the home of political deal-making), and Nashville, (the up-and-coming Southern Belle) are enjoying the spoils, while the rest of us dine on a meal of crow, possum stew and bat dung.

So, let's not be so hard on ourselves, you hear?

We did get a Gulch deal outta all of this hand-wranglin'...

We do not take the subway because of germs. Seriously, everything I need is within walking distance of our home. There is really no need for me to go below 44th or above 95th. Madison and Lexington have a plethora of shopping. Why take a subway from the 70s to my favorite Starbucks at 49th (great for people watching) when it's an easy walk? Columbus Circle is right across the park.

I just never have a need to take the subway.

Although it would have been cool to get 5,000 jobs from Amazon, that's not too big of a drop in our bucket compared to Nashville.

The renderings labeled “Midtown South” have The Varsity in the street level of a building and the top one seems to be viewing it from a park atop the connector. That would have been quite the change.
