Perhaps the black chain link fences are not permanent?

In any event, one thing about those fences is they almost inevitably get damaged and often fall down without a stabilizing horizontal rail along the top.

Thanks for the photos.

One thing I found both surprising and interesting is how they retained a lot of the old Transitway structures and set-up at St-Laurent.

I thought they were going for a new look wherever possible.

For example, Blair appears to have been completely re-done in terms of look, except for the walkway across the Queensway (which isn't really part of the station anyway, but does have the old Transitway look).

Yes, it is a shame that the City has so little ability to coordinate in any way with what is being built. From Mr. Seguin’s Hurdman pictures, you can see the care with which the City tries to blend with what RTG does:

I highly doubt they're temporary, they are recent additions and come from the same catalogue of ugly, clunky safety band-aids used elsewhere in the city.

If the issue of people throwing things or themselves onto the track was identified from the beginning, maybe the architects could have designed the station to butt up against the bridge, or configured the bus shelter area so some sort of barrier became integral to the design.

They are standard City fare for overpass 'protection', and they are permanent. Same stuff at Cyrville, in same circumstance. Undoubtedly same stuff elsewhere.

As for designing protection in integrally, remember Rule 1 of Phase 1 - CHEAP ! Any bus shelter or station wall extensions, or other 'reasonable' measures, onto the bridge would have been - EXPENSIVE !

I thought that too. They'll also be vulnerable to debris flying off vehicles. Think of sheets or chunks of ice coming off the top of trucks and buses in the winter.

I'm not sure about those concerns. I would have to see them in person (its herd to get perspective from a photo) but they seem to me to be at least 12 feet above the sidewalk. I am not sure if drunks could reach them without a ladder and they are set back far enough from the road that I can't imagine chunks of ice hitting them. Here is another picture for a different perspective.

It isn’t an issue of resolution, it’s an issue of angle. Being able to count the number of hairs on their head and see if they have lice won’t help identify a person if you can’t see their face.

Well then they should talk to the Saturn Photo people and mount the cameras a little further away at the appropriate angles.... To me, the "In your face" cameras really kind of distract from the overall ambience.

Like really, the plethora of columns surrounding the space didn't provide for adequate camera mounts?

Also "I'm not sure drunks could reach them" was famous last words dozens of times. Sounds like more of a challenge than a deterrent. What would be awesome is if the top connection was hinged to allow for movement. It looks like even a strong gust of wind will have these babies movin' and shakin'...

I find it strange that they have station hours instead of service hours. Say someone who is not familiar with the service hours leaves Queen Street Fare at 2:01 am, looks at the station hours and thinks, cool 9 minutes left, runs down to the platform level and gets there at 2:07 am and realizes the last train left at 2:00 am.
